I will repay\u2014not to mention to you that you owe me even your own self besides.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29959\" class=\"text Phlm-1-20\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in the Lord.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29960\" class=\"text Phlm-1-21\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29961\" class=\"text Phlm-1-22\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>But, meanwhile, also prepare a guest room for me, for\u00a0I trust that\u00a0through your prayers I shall be granted to you.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span class=\"text Phlm-1-23\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29963\" class=\"text Phlm-1-24\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>as do\u00a0Mark,\u00a0Aristarchus,\u00a0Demas,\u00a0Luke, my fellow laborers.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29964\" class=\"text Phlm-1-25\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup>The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ\u00a0be\u00a0with your spirit. Amen.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>with my own hand (v.19) \u2014 Paul wrote many of his letters by dictating them to someone else who did the actual writing. This one (and Galatians) he wrote himself.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Paul was willing to pay whatever restitution was necessary for Onesimus to be reconciled to Philemon. This letter, written with Paul&#8217;s own hand, was a binding contract stating that Paul would repay whatever Onesimus owned his master. \u2014 Grace, page 2168.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>you owe me even your own self (v.19) \u2014 Paul led Philemon to Christ.<\/h3>\n<h3>even more (v.21) \u2014 free Onesimus entirely? Williams thinks so (below).<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The closing words of the letter plainly reveal the writer&#8217;s belief that Philemon would forgive his slave; free him; and not expect compensation from the Apostle for any loss occasioned by him. \u2014 Williams, page 970.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Mark (v.24) \u2014 John Mark (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1529\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Acts 13:13<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1598\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">15:36-41<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3581\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Timothy 4:11<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<h3>Aristarchus (v.24) \u2014 one of Paul&#8217;s converts from Thessalonica. He traveled with Paul on this third journey (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1886\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Acts 20:4<\/span><\/a>) and to Rome (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2004\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Acts 27:2<\/span><\/a>: <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2181\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Colossians 4:10<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<h3>Demas (v.24) \u2014 who later turned forsook Paul because he &#8220;loved this present world&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3581\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Timothy4:10<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<h3>Luke (v.24) \u2014 the physician who traveled with Paul and who wrote Luke and Acts.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">We can safely conclude that Philemon brought much joy to the Apostle Paul and proved his love by receiving Onesimus with open arms. The reason being that this letter would have never been made public if Philemon had punished Onesimus or put him to death.
