{"id":9843,"date":"2026-06-22T06:22:29","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T12:22:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9843"},"modified":"2026-06-22T06:22:30","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T12:22:30","slug":"philemon-11-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9843","title":{"rendered":"Philemon 1:1-3"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span class=\"text Phlm-1-1\"><sup class=\"versenum\">1\u00a0<\/sup>Paul, a\u00a0prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy\u00a0our brother, t<\/span><span class=\"text Phlm-1-1\">o Philemon our beloved friend and fellow laborer,<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29941\" class=\"text Phlm-1-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>to the beloved Apphia,\u00a0Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house:<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29942\" class=\"text Phlm-1-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Only this letter begins with Paul referring to himself as &#8220;a prisoner of Jesus Christ.&#8221; The manner in which the letter begins sets the tone for Paul&#8217;s request and plea. \u2014 Grace, page 2167.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Philemon (v.2) = friendly, loving<\/h3>\n<h3>Apphia (v.2) \u2014 Likely Philemon&#8217;s wife<\/h3>\n<h3><em>Philemon<\/em> is a Greek name. <em>Apphia<\/em> is a Phrygian name. Philemon may not have originally been from Colossae. He may have gone there for business and married a local girl.<\/h3>\n<h3>Archippus (v.2) \u2014 Likely Philemon&#8217;s son, since all three are listed as living in the same house. By &#8220;fellow soldier,&#8221; Paul meant soldier in the army of Christ.
