Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-30365\" class=\"text Jas-5-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-30366\" class=\"text Jas-5-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>Indeed\u00a0we count them blessed who\u00a0endure. You have heard of\u00a0the perseverance of Job and seen\u00a0the end\u00a0intended by\u00a0the Lord\u2014that\u00a0the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-30367\" class=\"text Jas-5-12\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>But above all, my brethren,\u00a0do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your \u201cYes\u201d be \u201cYes,\u201d and\u00a0your\u00a0\u201cNo,\u201d \u201cNo,\u201d lest you fall into judgment.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">James was obviously concerned that the trouble these saints were enduring might cause them to become impatient with one another. This, of course, would only serve to further Satan&#8217;s goal to cause dissension among the brethren. &#8230; [His warning not to grumble] was, don&#8217;t murmur, complain, criticize, or find fault with one another. To do so would grieve the heart of God. Furthermore, James adds, &#8220;lest ye be condemned,&#8221; which in this context does not refer to eternal damnation, but to be <em>judged<\/em> with the implication of suffering loss. Contrary to popular opinion, &#8220;criticism&#8221; isn&#8217;t one of the gifts of the Spirit. \u2014 Sadler, page 131.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The &#8220;door&#8221; that James speaks of [in v.9] is the entry through which the kingdom believers will pass at the Second Coming of Christ. The Lord is said to be standing at the door as the judge of all the earth. With the suspension of the kingdom program, the parable of the ten virgins (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3266\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Matthew 25:1-13<\/span><\/a>) and what James states [here] will ultimately be fulfilled during the future day of the Lord.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Essentially, the Son of Man will sit in judgment when He returns to the earth in power and glory (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3272\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Matthew 25:31-46<\/span><\/a>). When He knocks at the door upon His return, those kingdom believers who are faithfully watching and waiting will enter into the millennium where their conduct will be reviewed. &#8230; After the door is shut many will say, &#8220;Lord, Lord, open to us.&#8221; Clearly, these are the unsaved that are said to have taken &#8220;no oil&#8221; with them, which is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. As the Scriptures state: &#8220;If any man has not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=364\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Romans 8:9<\/span><\/a>). \u2014 Sadler, page 133.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">James &#8230; shares with his hearers that not only should they find consolation in the patience of Job, but also [in the] <em>reward<\/em> he received for being patient. If they patiently endured like Job, they, too, would be rewarded at the Second Coming of Christ. &#8230; We believe [&#8220;the end intended by the Lord] is a reference to God abundantly blessing Job to a far greater degree at the end of his life than He had in the beginning. \u2014 Sadler, page 136.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>example (v.10) \u2014 In the Greek, this word appears first in the sentence for emphasis.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">[Verse 12] is the clearest allusion in this epistle to the Sermon on the Mount (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2744\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Matthew 5:34-37<\/span><\/a>). \u2014 KJV Commentary, page 1724.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Stress and affliction can cause us to lose control of that untamable member of our body \u2014 the tongue (James 3:2-12). When stressed, we are not to condemn ourselves by letting oaths slip past our lips, as did Peter when he denied the Lord (Matthew 26:74; Mark 14:71). \u2014 Grace, page 2202<\/span><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>9\u00a0Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned.
