{"id":9738,"date":"2026-03-31T07:39:03","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T13:39:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9738"},"modified":"2026-03-31T07:40:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T13:40:09","slug":"james-15-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9738","title":{"rendered":"James 1:5-8"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>If any of you lacks wisdom,\u00a0let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and\u00a0it will be given to him.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\n\n\n\n<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\n\n\n\n<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\n\n\n\n<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>he is\u00a0a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>The word translated &#8220;lacks&#8221; in verse 5 is the same word used in verse 4; &#8220;lacking nothing.&#8221; James was referring (v.5) to the wisdom needed to endure trials, to understand what God was accomplishing through them, and to pass the testing of faith.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">This type of wisdom was at the disposal of the kingdom saints. but they had to ask God in faith, not wavering. Without faith it is impossible to please God. &#8230; The same will also be true of the future Tribulation saints whom James is addressing providentially. &#8230; The epistle of James runs parallel to the earthly ministry of Christ recorded in the four Gospels. The Lord promised the little flock: &#8220;<span id=\"en-NKJV-23848\" class=\"text Matt-21-21\"><span class=\"woj\">Assuredly, I say to you,<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">if you have faith and<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree,<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">but also if you say to this mountain, \u2018Be removed and be cast into the sea,\u2019 it will be done.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-23849\" class=\"text Matt-21-22\"><span class=\"woj\">And<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3192\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Matthew 21:21-22<\/span><\/a>).\u201d &#8230; Around the time James was penning these words, the twelve apostles of the kingdom were suffering persecution at the hands of the religious leaders in Jerusalem. In response to Peter&#8217;s prayer for boldness, the place where they were assembled literally shook beneath their feat (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1356\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Acts 4:29-31<\/span><\/a>). Because they were under the <em>control<\/em> of the Holy Spirit, whatever they requested in faith, not doubting, they received. &#8230; <\/span><\/span>In all probability, this [wisdom] was accomplished through a special measure of wisdom that would be granted by God for a specific trial or by simply opening the eyes of their understanding as to what was already revealed in the Prophetic Scriptures. \u2014 Sadler, pages 33-34.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>liberally (v.5) = generously, sincerely, unreserved, free from ulterior motives or partiality.<\/h3>\n<h3>\n\n\n<h3>reproach (v.5) = fault-finding, insult<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Both [liberally and without reproach] contrast to man&#8217;s style of bestowing. God neither displays reluctance to release His gifts, nor humiliates the needed petitioners. \u2014 KJC, page 1717.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>doubting (v.6) = being at variance with oneself, hesitating. Literally &#8220;two-souled.&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>double-minded (v.8) = vacillating, wavering, uncertain<\/h3>\n<h3>unstable (v.8) = restless, inconstant \u2014 a doubter who cannot make up his mind about what he believes.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">\u00a0This wisdom enables us to discern His will and to follow the right guidance. It is obtained by an utter dependence on God, and the expression of that dependence is prayer. &#8230; All this\u00a0 necessitates childlike faith, which means counting on His faithfulness and on an answer from Him.
