{"id":9684,"date":"2026-03-24T05:07:28","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T11:07:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9684"},"modified":"2026-03-24T05:08:05","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T11:08:05","slug":"ecclesiastes-911-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9684","title":{"rendered":"Ecclesiastes 9:11-12"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>I returned\u00a0and saw under the sun that\u2014 the race\u00a0is\u00a0not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to men of understanding, nor favor to men of skill; but time and\u00a0chance happen to them all.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\n\n<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>For\u00a0man also does not know his time: like fish taken in a cruel net, like birds caught in a snare, so the sons of men\u00a0are\u00a0snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n\n<h3>returned (v.11) \u2014 resumed his investigation<\/h3>\n<h3>\n\n<\/h3>\n<h3>chance (v.11) = Incident, i.e., and unforeseen event<\/h3>\n<h3>\n\n<\/h3>\n<h3>his time (v.12) \u2014 the day of his death<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The argument of verse 11 [and the first phrase of verse 12] is, that because man is ignorant of how long he has to live therefore he is the helpless toy of time and chance; and his success in life, as viewed from &#8220;under the sun,&#8221; is not dependent upon swiftness, nor strength, nor cleverness. The statement of verse 12 is that man is suddenly ensnared by death as birds and fishes by a net.
