{"id":9682,"date":"2026-03-24T05:03:25","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T11:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9682"},"modified":"2026-03-24T05:03:53","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T11:03:53","slug":"ecclesiastes-97-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9682","title":{"rendered":"Ecclesiastes 9:7-10"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17483\" class=\"text Eccl-9-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>Go, eat your bread with joy, a<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-9-7\">nd drink your wine with a merry heart; f<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-9-7\">or God has already accepted your works.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17484\" class=\"text Eccl-9-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>Let your garments always be white, a<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-9-8\">nd let your head lack no oil.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity;\u00a0for that\u00a0is your portion in life, and in the labor which you perform under the sun.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>Whatever your hand finds to do, do\u00a0it\u00a0with your\u00a0might; for\u00a0there is\u00a0no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n\n<h3>accepted (v.7) = approved of<\/h3>\n<h3>\n\n<\/h3>\n<h3>works (v.7) \u2014 the joyful eating and drinking just mentioned, not meritorious works<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The philosophy and the declaration of verses 7-10 are: That recognizing the fact of death, and accepting it as the extinction of existence, the wisest life is one of enjoyment if God has given the means for enjoyment; and that so long as strength is enjoyed and active life is commendable. The declaration is: yet is that life of enjoyment and activity only vanity and empty toil. \u2014 Williams, page 446.<\/span><\/h3>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">We are to savor the joys of life and not allow ourselves to get mired down in its vexatious problems. As responsible beings, we are to make ourselves enjoy the little gifts of God. &#8230; Keep your garments white and anoint your head with fragrant spiced oil, counsels the preacher. These are symbols of festivity and joy. A man ought to get himself a wife and bask in the sunshine of her love. A man must love that wife all the days of his life and prize her as one of God&#8217;s choicest gifts. &#8230; Men &#8230; should enter upon the tasks of the hour with great verve. Whatever the task, man must see it as a gift from the Lord and enter into its challenge with an awareness that He will hold us accountable for what we do with His provisions. \u2014 KJV Commentary, page 750.<\/span><\/h3>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">It is interesting that Solomon spoke of a loving, lifelong relationship with one&#8217;s wife as a blessing from God when he had 700 wives and 300 concubines. Some believe that the 1,000 women in <a style=\"color: #008000;\" href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9469&amp;preview=true\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Ecclesiastes 7:26-28<\/span><\/a> refer to his wives and concubines which, if true, would imply that he never found his true love among any of them. \u2014 Grace, page 1178.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>which He has given you (v.9) \u2014 referring to days, not wife<\/h3>\n<h3>\n\n<\/h3>\n<h3>might (v.10) \u2014 Whatever you do, do it the best that you can.<\/h3>\n<h3>\n\n<\/h3>\n<h3>grave (v.10) \u2014 Sheol.
