{"id":9624,"date":"2026-03-16T15:04:32","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T21:04:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9624"},"modified":"2026-03-23T11:10:11","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T17:10:11","slug":"ecclesiastes-58-12-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9624","title":{"rendered":"Ecclesiastes 5:8-12"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span class=\"text Eccl-5-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>If you\u00a0see the oppression of the poor, and the violent perversion of justice and righteousness in a province, do not marvel at the matter; for\u00a0high official watches over high official, and higher officials are over them.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-17407\" class=\"text Eccl-5-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>Moreover the profit of the land is for all;\u00a0even\u00a0the king is served from the field.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17408\" class=\"text Eccl-5-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; n<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-10\">or he who loves abundance, with increase. <\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-10\">This also\u00a0is\u00a0vanity.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17409\" class=\"text Eccl-5-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>When goods increase, t<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-11\">hey increase who eat them; s<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-11\">o what profit have the owners e<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-11\">xcept to see them\u00a0with their eyes?<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17410\" class=\"text Eccl-5-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>The sleep of a laboring man\u00a0is sweet, w<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-12\">hether he eats little or much; b<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-12\">ut the abundance of the rich will not permit him to sleep.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Do not be surprised or dismayed at the systemic injustice and oppression of human government (v.8) \u2014 Grace, page 1173.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The argument of verse 8 is that if God, who is higher than the kings of the earth, temporarily permits oppression, His child is not to be stumbled, or confused by the fact, but approve the Divine purpose; at the same time recognizing (v.9) that God never intended private ownership of land; that such an economic system is the basal cause of poverty; and that the profit of the land should be for the benefit of all the members of the province who cooperate to produce the profit. A laboring man (v.12) is really happier and richer than the millionaire (vs.10-11). \u2014 Williams, page 443.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Those who suffer from oppression should consider the way to true profit to be this: the problem of injustice must be resolved by designated leadership. Rulers are to rule for good (Romans 13), and it is an advantage to the country that they are there. Their presence may not always further justice, but their absence is sure to guarantee anarchy. \u2014 KJV Commentary, page 743.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>He who loves silver (v.10) \u2014 The love of money increases, in proportion, as money increases.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">For most people, more money leads to a bigger house, a bigger car, more taxes, etc., so that their net gain is zero (Proverbs 23:5). &#8220;See them with their eyes&#8221; (v.11) \u2014 Having to keep an eye on their possessions. \u2014 Grace, page 1173.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Verse 12 is saying that the rich have many possessions and, therefore, much to worry about. This worry prevents them from sleeping comfortably. The laboring man, however, has few possessions and few worries.
