{"id":9618,"date":"2026-03-16T12:54:59","date_gmt":"2026-03-16T18:54:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9618"},"modified":"2026-03-23T11:10:03","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T17:10:03","slug":"ecclesiastes-51-7-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9618","title":{"rendered":"Ecclesiastes 5:1-7"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"chapter-1\"><em><span class=\"text Eccl-5-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span class=\"chapternum\">1 <\/span>Walk\u00a0prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather\u00a0than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17400\" class=\"text Eccl-5-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>Do not be rash with your mouth, a<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-2\">nd let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. <\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-2\">For God\u00a0is in heaven, and you on earth; t<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-2\">herefore let your words be few.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17401\" class=\"text Eccl-5-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>For a dream comes through much activity, a<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-3\">nd a fool\u2019s voice\u00a0is known\u00a0by\u00a0his\u00a0many words.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17402\" class=\"text Eccl-5-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; f<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-4\">or He has no pleasure in fools. <\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-5-4\">Pay what you have vowed\u2014<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-17403\" class=\"text Eccl-5-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>Better not to vow than to vow and not pay.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"first-line-none top-1\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-17404\" class=\"text Eccl-5-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>Do not let your\u00a0mouth cause your flesh to sin,\u00a0nor say before the messenger\u00a0of God\u00a0that it\u00a0was an error. Why should God be angry at your excuse and destroy the work of your hands?<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"first-line-none top-1\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-17405\" class=\"text Eccl-5-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>For in the multitude of dreams and many words\u00a0there is\u00a0also vanity. But\u00a0fear God.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>walk prudently (v.1) = guard your steps, be careful<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The man who worships properly is a careful listener. To hear implies not only hearing, but understanding and obedience as well. The fool offers sacrifices in a mechanical manner, but the man of wisdom is responsive to the teachings and prayers of the Temple service. \u2014 KJV Commentary, page 742.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Solomon is urging his readers (v.2) not to make vows to God without thinking them through carefully first \u2014 they shouldn&#8217;t make vows they cannot keep.<\/h3>\n<h3>dream (v.3) \u2014 a perplexing, unsettling dream<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Note the Hebrew parallelism in verse 3. As &#8220;a multitude of business&#8221; produces bad dreams, so a &#8220;multitude of words&#8221; produces foolish speech (&#8220;a fool&#8217;s voice&#8221;). As Proverbs 17:27-28 says, &#8220;He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise; and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.&#8221; \u2014 Grace, page 1173.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">It was not a sin to make a vow (v.5), but it was a sin to make a vow and not keep it (Deuteronomy 23:21-22). \u2014 Grace, page 1173.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Sin (v.6) \u2014 It was a sin to vow before God to do something and then not do it.<\/h3>\n<h3>messenger (v.6) \u2014 a priest, one who heard vows and accepted offerings<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The maker of rash vows desires the priest to offer for him a trespass offering. Under the premise that his vow was an error, he expects to thus dispose of his sin.
