Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11<\/sup> But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12<\/sup> For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>now (v.10) \u2014 in the things he is saying in this letter.<\/h3>\n<h3>do I now persuade (v.10) \u2014 Paul is asking if his words seek (court or solicit favor) to conciliate men.<\/h3>\n<h3>men, or God? \u2014 rhetorical. Paul does not attempt to conciliate men but regards only God. In Greek, the question expects a negative answer.<\/h3>\n<h3>still (v.10) \u2014 as in his pre-conversion days<\/h3>\n<h3>bondservant = slave, with the emphasis on the relationship with the master<\/h3>\n<h3>bondservant of Christ (v.10) \u2014 incompatible with pleasing men.<\/h3>\n<h3>make known (v.11) \u2014 reminding the Galatians of the facts<\/h3>\n<h3>gospel (v.11) \u2014 can refer to the facts, as in <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2460\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Corinthians 15:1-3<\/span><\/a>, or, as in this case, the interpretation of the facts.<\/h3>\n<h3>not according to man (v.11) \u2014 not from men in origin or object<\/h3>\n<h3 align=\"justify\">I neither received it (v.12) \u2014 Paul didn&#8217;t receive his message from <u>any<\/u> person.<\/h3>\n<h3 align=\"justify\"><span style=\"color: #006600;\">I neither received it \u2014 the pronoun is emphatic, suggesting a contrast with the Judaizers, who probably professed to come from James, as they did who taught the same things at Antioch (see <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=991\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Galatians 2:12<\/span><\/a>) and denying any inferiority in this respect to those apostles who had companied with the Lord and had been directly commissioned by Him before His ascension. But while Paul thus &#8220;glorifies his ministry&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=416\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Romans 11:13<\/span><\/a>), when speaking of himself personally he uses very different language, &#8220;I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2467\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Corinthians 15:9<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=5240\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Corinthians 12:11<\/span><\/a>). \u2014 Vine, page 144 <\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>nor was I taught it (v.12) \u2014 Paul goes to extremes to declare his gospel is unique. There are no other possible alternatives except that it came from Jesus Christ.<\/h3>\n<h3>revelation (v.12) \u2014 direct communication of the mind of God. Paul saw the Lord and heard His voice. He was given information otherwise unknown and unknowable. God didn&#8217;t use men to teach Paul.<\/h3>\n<h3>The revelation to Paul wasn&#8217;t only from Christ, it was of Christ.<\/h3>\n<h3>The Judaizers accused Paul of temporizing because of his stance in <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2327\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Corinthians 9:20<\/span><\/a>. They said he was currying favor. Hence the strength of his anathema in verses 8 and 9 and his response in verse 10.<\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>10 For do I now persuade men, or God?
