The tears of the oppressed, but they have no comforter\u2014On the side of their oppressors there is power, but they have no comforter.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17384\" class=\"text Eccl-4-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore I praised the dead who were already dead, m<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-4-2\">ore than the living who are still alive.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17385\" class=\"text Eccl-4-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>Yet, better than both\u00a0is he who has never existed, w<\/span><span class=\"text Eccl-4-3\">ho has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The confusion, ignorance, and misery which result from banishing God from the world is in this chapter made more apparent by the absence of the Divine Name. It does not once appear .<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">&#8220;I returned and saw&#8221; (v.1) means I resumed my investigation; and has special reference to <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=9393&amp;preview=true\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Ecclesiastes 3:16<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">&#8220;I praised&#8221; (v.2) means I esteemed happy. The argument is that men suffer so much from the injustice of governments that it were better to be dead or never to have been born.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The repetition of the statement &#8220;they had no comforter&#8221; (v.1) emphasizes the tender pity of God for the oppressed. If there be no God, and no future life, then indeed it would be better never to have been born; and when knowledge is limited to what takes place &#8220;under the sun&#8221; (v.1) then is the congratulation of verses 2 and 3 sound philosophy. \u2014 Williams, page 442.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1 Then I returned and considered all the oppression that is done under the sun: And look!
