Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #009900;\">Dad&#8217;s notes \u2014 The Son desires works (v. 6-19)<\/span><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #009900;\">Keep those given unto Him (v. 11)<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #009900;\">That they have His joy (v. 13)<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #009900;\">That they be kept from evil (v. 15)<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #009900;\">That they be sanctified by truth (v. 17)<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>In anticipation of the cross (v. 11) Jesus speaks as though it is already accomplished.<\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0Holy Father (v. 11) \u2013 The only place where the Son addresses the Father as Holy, perhaps because only the Holy Father can keep the disciples in an unholy world (1 Peter 1:14-17)<\/h3>\n<h3>This speaks of the believer&#8217;s security (v.11). If they could be lost, then either the Father <u>couldn&#8217;t<\/u> keep them or He told the Son &#8220;no.&#8221; Christ would have died in vain.<\/h3>\n<h3>that they may be one (v. 11) \u2014 one in fellowship, affection, aim<\/h3>\n<h3>as We are (v. 11) \u2014 an unbreakable, spiritual, divine unity<\/h3>\n<h3>son of perdition (v. 12) \u2014 Judas Iscariot, who was lost, but only so Scripture could be fulfilled. (Psalm 69:25: Psalm 109:8). And Judas didn&#8217;t lose his salvation \u2014 he never had it.<\/h3>\n<h3>Why was Judas allowed to be part of the inner circle? Maybe so Christ could taste all our sorrows and\/or as proof of Christ&#8217;s perfection. Judas was in a position to detect any flaws, but he proclaimed Christ innocent.<\/h3>\n<h3>My joy (v. 13) \u2014 Christ is the author, giver and object of joy (1 John 1:3-4; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=845\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 15:11<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<h3>Your Word (v. 14) \u2014 same as in chapter 1 \u2014 <em>Logos<\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>not of this world (v. 14) \u2014 without this world&#8217;s guiding principles \u2014 lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, pride of life \u2014 therefore, He was holy. Our old natures are of the world, but we are given a new nature not of this world (1 John 3:19).<\/h3>\n<h3>We are left on the earth 1) for our own sake so we can experience suffering and know our own sinfulness and thereby appreciate Christ more, and 2) so we can testify of Him for the world&#8217;s sake (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=5219\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Corinthians 12:9<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1746\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hebrews 6:12<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4200\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Thessalonians 3:3<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<h3>keep them from the evil one (v. 15) \u2014 Satan. This isn&#8217;t referring to suffering and temptation.<\/h3>\n<h3>sanctify (v. 17) \u2014 made saints, set apart \u2014 practical sanctification \u2014 a life of separation from the world, made possible by the truth of the Word.<\/h3>\n<h3>The disciples were sanctified for their mission to the world (v. 18)<\/h3>\n<h3>I sanctify Myself (v. 19) \u2014 His glorification leads us to sanctification until finally, at our own glorification, we will be like Him.<\/h3>\n<h3>Our identity with Christ<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3>life (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=881\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v. 2<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>unity (v. 11)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>separation (v. 14)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>mission (v. 18)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>fellowship (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=892\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v. 21<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>glory (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=892\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v. 22<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>love (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=892\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v. 23<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You.
