class=\"text Ps-135-1\">Praise Him, O you servants of the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16178\" class=\"text Ps-135-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2 <\/sup>You who stand in the house of the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In the courts of the house of our God,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16179\" class=\"text Ps-135-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3 <\/sup>Praise the <span class=\"small-caps name, for it is pleasant.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16180\" class=\"text Ps-135-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4 <\/sup>For the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> has chosen Jacob for Himself,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Israel for His special treasure.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16181\" class=\"text Ps-135-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>For I know that the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> is great,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And our Lord is above all gods.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16182\" class=\"text Ps-135-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6 <\/sup>Whatever the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> pleases He does,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In heaven and in earth,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In the seas and in all deep places.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16183\" class=\"text Ps-135-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7 <\/sup>He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He makes lightning for the rain;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He brings the wind out of His treasuries.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16184\" class=\"text Ps-135-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>He destroyed the firstborn of Egypt,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Both of man and beast.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16185\" class=\"text Ps-135-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9 <\/sup>He sent signs and wonders into the midst of you, O Egypt,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Upon Pharaoh and all his servants.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16186\" class=\"text Ps-135-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10 <\/sup>He defeated many nations<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And slew mighty kings\u2014<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16187\" class=\"text Ps-135-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11 <\/sup>Sihon king of the Amorites,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Og king of Bashan,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And all the kingdoms of Canaan\u2014<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16188\" class=\"text Ps-135-12\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12 <\/sup>And gave their land as a heritage,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-12\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">A heritage to Israel His people.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16189\" class=\"text Ps-135-13\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>Your name, O <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>, endures forever,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-13\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Your fame, O <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>, throughout all generations.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16190\" class=\"text Ps-135-14\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14 <\/sup>For the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> will judge His people,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-14\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And He will have compassion on His servants.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16191\" class=\"text Ps-135-15\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>The idols of the nations are silver and gold,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-15\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The work of men\u2019s hands.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16192\" class=\"text Ps-135-16\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16 <\/sup>They have mouths, but they do not speak;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-16\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Eyes they have, but they do not see;<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16193\" class=\"text Ps-135-17\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17 <\/sup>They have ears, but they do not hear;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-17\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Nor is there any breath in their mouths.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16194\" class=\"text Ps-135-18\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18 <\/sup>Those who make them are like them;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-18\" bless the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>!<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16197\" class=\"text Ps-135-21\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21 <\/sup>Blessed be the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> out of Zion,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-135-21\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Who dwells in Jerusalem!<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">This first section (vs.1-7)focuses on the expression of God&#8217;s solicitude for Israel which stands at the foundation of their identity as His people\u2014to wit, His sovereign and umerited choice (cf. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Romans 9:11<\/span>). \u2014 Wechsler, page 323.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Having &#8220;chosen Jacob (i.e., the people of Israel) for Himself&#8221; (v.4) based on His grace and not their worth (which was\/is neither worse nor better than that of any other group), God maintains His choice\u2014that is, their existence as a people\u2014on the same basis, &#8220;For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=422\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Romans 11:29<\/span><\/a>). Despite their predominant hardness and sinfulness (extending from their depravity, not as Jews, but as humans, God thus expresses His solicitude for Israel by (1) defeating their enemies, from Egypt (vs.8-9), the Amorites, and the people of Bashan (v.11; cf. Numbers 21:21-35) to all the kingdoms of Canaan (v.11b); (2) giving them the land of Canaan (and all it contained for their sustenance) as a heritage (or &#8220;inheritance&#8221;) forever (cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4739\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Genesis 17:8<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=8158\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Psalm 105:8-11<\/span><\/a>); and (3) vindicating and having compassion on His people\u2014i.e., manifesting His personal love in <em>chastisement<\/em>. \u2014 Wechsler, page 323.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The psalmist focuses in this concluding section (vs.15-21) on the manner (and hence depth) of God&#8217;s expressed solicitude for Israel by contrasting it with the manner (i.e., the utter lack thereof in which other &#8220;gods&#8221; relate to those who trust in them (v.18). \u2014 Wechsler, page 324.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">This Psalm and the following &#8230; are prophetic, and will be sung by redeemed Israel at the coronation of the Great King in Zion.
