{"id":8506,"date":"2023-09-23T08:21:42","date_gmt":"2023-09-23T14:21:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=8506"},"modified":"2023-09-23T08:21:42","modified_gmt":"2023-09-23T14:21:42","slug":"psalm-125","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=8506","title":{"rendered":"Psalm 125"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"psalm-title\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span class=\"text Ps-125-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">A Song of Ascents.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span class=\"chapter-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span class=\"text Ps-125-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">1 <\/span>Those who trust in the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-125-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Are like Mount Zion,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-125-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16113\" class=\"text Ps-125-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2 <\/sup>As the mountains surround Jerusalem,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-125-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">So the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> surrounds His people<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-125-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">From this time forth and forever.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16114\" class=\"text Ps-125-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-125-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">On the land allotted to the righteous,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-125-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16115\" class=\"text Ps-125-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>Do good, O <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>, to those who are good,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-125-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And to those who are upright in their hearts.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16116\" class=\"text Ps-125-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-125-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> shall lead them away<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-125-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">With the workers of iniquity.<br \/>\nPeace be upon Israel!<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The most apropos thing by which to illustrate the permanence of God&#8217;s people <em>as<\/em> God&#8217;s people (per the principle given in <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=422\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Romans 11:29<\/span><\/a>)\u2014i.e., that they cannot be moved\u2014is Mount Zion (a poetic synonym for Jerusalem), which despite any geographic changes that God may make when He renews heaven and earth (cf. Isaiah 65:17; 66:22; Revelation 21:1), will abide forever as the same distinct Zion of previous redemption history. This permanence of Zion is ultimately grounded in the permanence of Zion&#8217;s King, the divine Messiah, who will establish His throne in Zion (on the Temple Mount) <em>before<\/em> renewing Creation, and maintain His throne there forever (i.e., even after renewing Creation; see esp. Ezekiel 43:7 and Revelation 22:3-5). \u2014 Wechsler, page 300.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">In His paternal solicitude God will ensure that the scepter (a symbol of final and irrefutable political authority) of wickedness\u2014i.e., ungodly authority\u2014is never brought to bear upon the righteous (i.e., those whom He has graciously &#8220;reckoned&#8221; as righteous) with such strength (and perhaps even allure) that they cannot resist the pressure to do what they know to be wrong. God, who knows us far better than we ourselves, will never allow His children to face a challenge to sin that they cannot overcome (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2374\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Corinthians 10:13<\/span><\/a>). \u2014 Wechsler, page 301.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">No doubt the remnant of Israel sang or chanted this Psalm when they went up to the temple. It certainly meant much to the loyal, believing Jews when they returned from Babylon. In a much larger sense, it is a prophecy that looks forward to the Millennial Day, when the Remnant, tried in the fires of the Great Tribulation, shall have met the Messiah,and shall know they are at home to be moved no more. \u2014 Phillips, page 305.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Williams&#8217; view:<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">This song celebrates the destruction of Anti-Christ&#8217;s kingdom and the establishment of Messiah&#8217;s government. &#8230; The word &#8220;henceforth&#8221; [&#8220;from this time forth&#8221;] (v.2), defines the time of the fulfillment of the prophecy. It will be the morn of Christ&#8217;s millennial reign.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Verse 3 should read thus: &#8220;The sceptre of the Lawless One (Daniel 11:36 and <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=6151\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Thessalonians 2:8<\/span><\/a>), shall not remain upon the lot of the righteous,&#8221; i.e., on Palestine.
