{"id":8442,"date":"2023-09-11T08:19:25","date_gmt":"2023-09-11T14:19:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=8442"},"modified":"2023-09-11T08:21:07","modified_gmt":"2023-09-11T14:21:07","slug":"psalm-119137","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=8442","title":{"rendered":"Psalm 119:137-144"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"psalm-acrostic\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16036\" class=\"text Ps-119-137\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">TSADDE<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<div class=\"poetry\">\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span class=\"text Ps-119-137\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">137\u00a0<\/sup>Righteous are You, O <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-119-137\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And upright are Your judgments.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16037\" class=\"text Ps-119-138\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">138 <\/sup>Your testimonies, which You have commanded,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-119-138\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Are righteous and very faithful.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16038\" class=\"text Ps-119-139\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">139 <\/sup>My zeal has consumed me,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-119-139\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Because my enemies have forgotten Your words.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16039\" class=\"text Ps-119-140\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">140 <\/sup>Your word is very pure;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-119-140\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Therefore Your servant loves it.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16040\" class=\"text Ps-119-141\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">141 <\/sup>I am small and despised,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-119-141\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Yet I do not forget Your precepts.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16041\" class=\"text Ps-119-142\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">142 <\/sup>Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-119-142\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And Your law is truth.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16042\" class=\"text Ps-119-143\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">143 <\/sup>Trouble and anguish have overtaken me,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-119-143\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Yet Your commandments are my delights.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-16043\" class=\"text Ps-119-144\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">144 <\/sup>The righteousness of Your testimonies is everlasting;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-119-144\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Give me understanding, and I shall live.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In this stanza, the psalmist had a lot to say about God&#8217;s attributes as reflected in His Word.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>zeal (v.139) = ardor, jealousy, anger<\/h3>\n<h3>consumed (v.139) = lit. exterminated, put an end to (hyperbolic)<\/h3>\n<h3>small (v.141) = insignificant<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">When the vicissitudes of life dull the shine of other sources of pleasure and delight, the value and appeal of God&#8217;s Word become greater, overtaking and sublimating the totality of our yearnings in this life.
