Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">28 You have heard Me say to you, &#8216;I am going away and coming back to you.&#8217; If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, &#8216;I am going to the Father,&#8217; for My Father is greater than I.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">29 &#8220;And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">31 But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do. Arise, let us go from here.&#8221;<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>Peace (v.27) \u2014 First usage is reconciliation with God through Christ&#8217;s death (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2055\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Colossians 1:20<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=306\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Romans 5:1<\/span><\/a>). Second usage is peace through the Spirit (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1217\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Philippians 4:17<\/span><\/a>; Isaiah 26:3). The immediate application for both would be in the days and weeks that followed after Christ said this to the disciples (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=932\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 20:19<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<h3>not as the world gives (v.27) \u2014 The world talks of peace and offers it, but can&#8217;t deliver (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4261\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Thessalonians 5:3<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<h3>you have heard Me say (v.28) \u2014 referring back to <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=821\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 13:33-36<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=825\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">14:2-3<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=830\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">12<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3>you would rejoice (v.28) \u2014 Rather than being sad, the disciples should have been happy for Christ because He was returning to the Father.<\/h3>\n<h3>My Father is greater than I (v.28) \u2014 Not in Christ&#8217;s Godhead (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1159\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Philippians 2:6-8<\/span><\/a>) but because of His humanity and servanthood<\/h3>\n<h3>ye may believe (v.29) \u2014 that He was God, Messiah, Savior, truth<\/h3>\n<h3>ruler of this world (v.30) \u2014 Satan, who has the power of death (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1650\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hebrews 2:14<\/span><\/a>) but would not prevail over Christ. When Christ went to the Cross, it appeared that Satan was in control, but actually the Father was.<\/h3>\n<h3>has nothing in Me (v. 30) \u2014 Christ is holy. There is nothing in Him that Satan can influence, appeal to, or control.<\/h3>\n<h3>Verses 30 and 31 can be summed up as &#8220;Satan has no power over Me, but I love the Father and do what I am about to do (His death) for Him. Get up.
