\nYour salvation according to Your word.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

42 <\/sup>So shall I have an answer for him who reproaches me,<\/span><\/em>
\nFor I trust in Your word.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

43 <\/sup>And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth,<\/span><\/em>
\nFor I have hoped in Your ordinances.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

44 <\/sup>So shall I keep Your law continually,<\/span><\/em>
\nForever and ever.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

45 <\/sup>And I will walk at liberty,<\/span><\/em>
\nFor I seek Your precepts.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

46 <\/sup>I will speak of Your testimonies also before kings,<\/span><\/em>
\nAnd will not be ashamed.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

47 <\/sup>And I will delight myself in Your commandments,<\/span><\/em>
\nWhich I love.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

48 <\/sup>My hands also I will lift up to Your commandments,<\/span><\/em>
\nWhich I love, a<\/span>nd I will meditate on Your statutes.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

Upon first reading, the theme of this stanza seems to be a determination to rely on God’s word in the face of intimidating circumstances.<\/h3>\n

In this section the psalmist recognizes his responsibility as a witness. He desires to have an answer to the man who reproaches him. He desires to be able to speak of the testimonies of Jehovah before kings without being ashamed. He recognizes that such power consists in true familiarity with the law of his God. \u2014 Morgan, page 230.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The terms Thy mercies, Thy salvation, Thy word, Thy words, Thy judgments, They law, Thy testimonies, Thy precepts, Thy commandments and Thy statutes mark the unity existing between the Bible and its Author.
