{"id":830,"date":"2010-04-04T05:00:23","date_gmt":"2010-04-04T11:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=830"},"modified":"2022-01-23T17:48:23","modified_gmt":"2022-01-23T23:48:23","slug":"john-147-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=830","title":{"rendered":"John 14:7-12"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"font-style: italic; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">7 &#8220;If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.&#8221;<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-style: italic; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">8 Philip said to Him, &#8220;Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.&#8221;<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-style: italic; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">9 Jesus said to him, &#8220;Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, &#8216;Show us the Father&#8217;?<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-style: italic; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-style: italic; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"font-style: italic; color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">12 &#8220;Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.&#8221;<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Verse 7 is similar to what Jesus said to the unbelieving Jews (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=697\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 8:19<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<h3>from now on (v.7) \u2014 referring to what He was about to tell them, and what they experienced between that point and Pentecost.<\/h3>\n<h3>Philip&#8217;s statement (v.8) \u2014 He believed Jesus was the Messiah (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=556\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 1:45-46<\/span><\/a>), but didn&#8217;t understand (yet) that He was God, even though He had claimed one-ness with the Father many times. As a Jew, Philip required a sign (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2050\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Colossians 1:1<\/span><\/a>5; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1618\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hebrews 1:3<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<h3>Jesus revealed God in His own person (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3497\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Timothy 6:16<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=537\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 1:18<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<h3>for the sake of the works (v.11) \u2014 His miracles were His credentials.<\/h3>\n<h3>Verse 12 was meant only for the apostles while they ministered regarding the Kingdom to the Jews.
