{"id":7389,"date":"2023-01-27T16:35:46","date_gmt":"2023-01-27T22:35:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=7389"},"modified":"2023-01-27T16:36:08","modified_gmt":"2023-01-27T22:36:08","slug":"psalm-98","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=7389","title":{"rendered":"Psalm 98"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">1 <span class=\"chapter-2\"><span class=\"text Ps-98-1\">Oh, sing to the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> a new song!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-98-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">For He has done marvelous things;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-98-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15493\" class=\"text Ps-98-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2 <\/sup>The <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> has made known His salvation;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-98-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15494\" class=\"text Ps-98-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3 <\/sup>He has remembered His mercy and His faithfulness to the house of Israel;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-98-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15495\" class=\"text Ps-98-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>Shout joyfully to the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>, all the earth;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-98-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15496\" class=\"text Ps-98-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5 <\/sup>Sing to the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> with the harp,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-98-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">With the harp and the sound of a psalm,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15497\" class=\"text Ps-98-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6 <\/sup>With trumpets and the sound of a horn;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-98-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Shout joyfully before the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>, the King.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15498\" class=\"text Ps-98-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>Let the sea roar, and all its fullness,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-98-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The world and those who dwell in it;<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15499\" class=\"text Ps-98-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8 <\/sup>Let the rivers clap their hands;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-98-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Let the hills be joyful together<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span class=\"indent-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-15500\" class=\"text Ps-98-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9 <\/sup><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>before the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>,<\/span><\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-98-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">For He is coming to judge the earth.<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-98-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">With righteousness He shall judge the world,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-98-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And the peoples with equity.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">In its heading this composition is described, simply, as a psalm (sung by the Levites in the Temple to the accompaniment of musical instruments), though early Jewish tradition (i.e., the Septuagint) also attributes it to David. \u2014 Wechsler, page 235.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The sweet melody and perfect harmony of the new song that will salute Jehovah Messiah on the millennial morning will have three voiced, the Hebrew (vs. 1-3), the Gentile (vs. 4-6), and Nature (vs. 7-8). But Israel will have the leading part and a double theme, for she ill sing of grace in past redemption and in present restoration. \u2014 Williams, page 375.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">This exhortation (vs.1-3) is directed not only to the assembly of Israel, but to all the earth. The basis for this exhortation\/challenge is, in essence, twofold: (1) because He has done wonderful things [miracles], entailing the display of His universally preeminent power <em>over<\/em> man, and (2) the display of His gracious and faithful pursuit of intimacy <em>with<\/em> man (represented by His lovingkindness and faithfulness to the house of Israel, on behalf of whom He has made known His salvation to the nations). \u2014 Wechsler, pages 236-236.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The extent of the psalmist&#8217;s exhortation is here vividly underscored by (1) the sources of God&#8217;s praise, which\u00a0 extends from all the earth (v.4), including its people (v.7b: &#8220;those who dwell&#8221;), its animals (v.7a: &#8220;all it contains&#8221;), and even its inanimate parts (v.7a: &#8220;the sea&#8221;; v.8a: &#8220;the rivers&#8221;; v.8b: &#8220;the mountains&#8221;); and (2) the diversity of God&#8217;s praise, represented by the multifaceted ways in which that praise is produced (by &#8220;shouting joyfully,&#8221; by &#8220;singing,&#8221; &#8220;with the lyre,&#8221; &#8220;with trumpets,&#8221; by &#8220;roaring,&#8221; and by &#8220;clapping.&#8221; \u2014 Wechsler, page 236.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The identical phraseology as in this verse (v.9) is used to refer to the advent of the Son of God, the messianic King, when He will judge all those who have up to that point rejected Him, bot then and throughout history (cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1780\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hebrews 9:27<\/span><\/a>; Revelation 20:12). \u2014 Wechsler, page 236.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Although most of my commentaries try to explain this psalm as a present-day exhortation to worship or even as a celebration of the release of Israel from Egypt, I think the main application in view is the celebration of Israel after the Tribulation is over and the Lord is on the throne in His Millennial Reign.<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1 Oh, sing to the Lord a new song!
