class=\"versenum\">2 <\/sup>Sing to the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>, bless His name;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15469\" class=\"text Ps-96-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3 <\/sup>Declare His glory among the nations,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">His wonders among all peoples.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15470\" class=\"text Ps-96-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>For the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> is great and greatly to be praised;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He is to be feared above all gods.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15471\" class=\"text Ps-96-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5 <\/sup>For all the gods of the peoples are idols,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">But the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> made the heavens.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15472\" class=\"text Ps-96-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6 <\/sup>Honor and majesty are before Him;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15473\" class=\"text Ps-96-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>Give to the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>, O families of the peoples,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Give to the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> glory and strength.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15474\" class=\"text Ps-96-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8 <\/sup>Give to the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> the glory due His name;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Bring an offering, and come into His courts.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15475\" class=\"text Ps-96-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9 <\/sup>Oh, worship the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> in the beauty of holiness!<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Tremble before Him, all the earth.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15476\" class=\"text Ps-96-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>Say among the nations, \u201cThe <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> reigns;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The world also is firmly established,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It shall not be moved;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He shall judge the peoples righteously.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15477\" class=\"text Ps-96-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15478\" class=\"text Ps-96-12\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12 <\/sup>Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it.<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-12\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span class=\"indent-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-15479\" class=\"text Ps-96-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup> before the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-13\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth.<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-13\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He shall judge the world with righteousness,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-96-13\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And the peoples with His truth.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Though the Hebrew text of this psalm has no heading, it is almost certainly to be attributed to David seeing that (1) the entirety of the psalm is given, with minor variations, in 1 Chronicles 16:23-33 as part of a psalm of thanksgiving ascribed to David, and (2) early Jewish tradition (i.e., the Septuagint) attributes it to David. \u2014 Wechsler, page 231.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Beginning with this psalm and running through the 100th psalm is a great celebration when the Messiah comes to the earth to claim His possession and to set up His Kingdom. &#8230; These psalms look forward to the day when the Messiah will appear in His Kingdom as it was revealed to David in <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=6321\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Psalm 72<\/span><\/a>. At that time, righteousness and peace will be enthroned through Him, who is both King of righteousness and King of peace. \u2014 Phillips, pages 213-214.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Israel having sung the previous psalm (&#8220;us&#8221; v.1 and &#8220;we&#8221; v.7) now invites the nations to join her in &#8220;a new song.&#8221; The next psalm [Psalm 97] is the song. &#8230; The doctrine of the psalm is that the advent of the Messiah into the world will make it a Paradise, and that His rule alone can banish dissension, war, misery, and injustice, and establish society in an enduring brotherhood. \u2014 Williams, page 374.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">It is Jesus, specifically, who is ultimately in view in this psalm as is indicated by the reference (in v.3) to His wonderful deeds, which term refers to His acts of redemption as expressed within history\u2014and any manifestation or revelation of God&#8217;s presence or work within history is, per <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=537\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 1:18<\/span><\/a>, the work of the Son (whose &#8220;role&#8221; has always been to <em>do<\/em> that which the Father <em>wills<\/em>). These past deeds, together with His work of creating the heavens (i.e., &#8220;sky,&#8221; referring to <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4452\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Genesis 1:7-8<\/span><\/a>, which was also the specific work of the Son; cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=514\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 1:3<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2050\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Colossians 1:16<\/span><\/a>), amply attest His majesty (v.6) and worldwide sovereignty in past history. \u2014 Wechsler, page 232.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The psalmist challenges to families of the people not simply to submit in fear to the divine King (as a defeated people might grudgingly submit to a royal conqueror), but rather, reflecting God&#8217;s own desire in the matter, that they come into His courts (implying conversion, since Gentiles could go no further than the single Court of the Gentiles) and worship the Lord in holy attire (unquestionably implying full status, via conversion, among God&#8217;s people, to whom the expression &#8220;holy attire&#8221; [or &#8220;splendor of holiness,&#8221; &#8220;holy array] is elsewhere exclusively applied; cf. 1 Chronicles 16:29;\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3924\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Psalm 29:2<\/span><\/a>; 110:3. This point is further emphasized by the universal challenge to say (i.e., affirm) that the Lord reigns (corresponding &#8230; to the English present perfect continuous tense, &#8220;has been reigning&#8221;\u2014i.e., ever since the beginning of Creation until now). \u2014 Wechsler, page 233.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The psalmist concludes his challenge by focusing on the Lord&#8217;s future coming to judge the earth (v.13), which refers specifically to the future coming of the Son of God, to whom the Father &#8220;has given all judgment&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=628\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 5:22<\/span><\/a>). At that time He will remove &#8220;the prince of this world&#8221; (i.e., Satan; cf, <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3689\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Ephesians 2:2<\/span><\/a>; 1 John 5:19) and, as a manifestation of the universal rule that has <em>always<\/em> been His (yet which, in His forbearance, He has so far withheld from imposing), He will judge the world in righteousness and &#8230; faithfulness. \u2014 Wechsler, page 233.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1 Oh, sing to the Lord a new song!
