salvation.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15457\" class=\"text Ps-95-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2 <\/sup>Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-95-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15458\" class=\"text Ps-95-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3 <\/sup>For the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> is the great God,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-95-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And the great King above all gods.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15459\" class=\"text Ps-95-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4 <\/sup>In His hand are the deep places of the earth;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-95-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The heights of the hills are His also.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15460\" class=\"text Ps-95-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5 <\/sup>The sea is His, for He made it;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-95-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And His hands formed the dry land.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15461\" class=\"text Ps-95-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>Oh come, let us worship and bow down;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-95-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Let us kneel before the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> our Maker.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15462\" class=\"text Ps-95-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7 <\/sup>For He is our God,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-95-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And we are the people of His pasture,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span class=\"text Ps-95-7\">And the sheep of His hand.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"text Ps-95-7\">Today, if you will hear His voice:<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15463\" class=\"text Ps-95-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8 <\/sup>\u201cDo not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-95-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">As in the day of trial in the wilderness,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15464\" class=\"text Ps-95-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9 <\/sup>When your fathers tested Me;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-95-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">They tried Me, though they saw My work.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15465\" class=\"text Ps-95-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10 <\/sup>For forty years I was grieved with that generation,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-95-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And said, \u2018It is a people who go astray in their hearts,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-95-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And they do not know My ways.\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15466\" class=\"text Ps-95-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11 <\/sup>So I swore in My wrath,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-95-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u2018They shall not enter My rest.\u2019 \u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Though this psalm has no heading in the Hebrew text, early Jewish tradition (i.e., the Septuagint) attributes it to David\u2014which attribution is confirmed by the explicit reference to David in <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1717\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hebrews 4:7<\/span><\/a> as the one through whom this psalm was revealed. \u2014 Wechsler, page 229.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">This psalm, and the five following, are priceless illustrations of the victorious power of a Divinely-given faith that will enable the lovers of Messiah in that dark night of shame, torture and death to sing praise to His name in the sure expectation of His glorious appearing and Kingdom. \u2014 Williams, page 373<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">This psalm may be thought of as a prelude to another cluster of Messianic Psalms. &#8230;[It is] an inspired prophecy that will have its fulfillment just prior to the manifestation of the Messiah and the glorious Kingdom Age.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The call of the first verse, &#8220;O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation&#8221; is that of the &#8220;Faithful Remnant&#8221; of Israel at the close of the coming Tribulation.&#8221; \u2014 Phillips, pages 209-210.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">David begins by exhorting his people (v.7, where he uses the Hebrew term <em>am<\/em>, typically reserved for Israel) to join him in singing for joy (the joy attending worship) to the Lord for His beneficial works on behalf of man\u2014starting with His work of Creation. \u2014 Wechsler, page 229.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The second reason (vs. 6-7a) presented by David for worshiping and bowing down to the Lord is His work as Israel&#8217;s Shepherd\u2014a role that is intended to highlight not so much His sovereign power <em>over<\/em> Creation as His specific, intimate, and consistent power <em>in<\/em> Creation with His covenant people, Israel. To emphasize this notion of relationship, David refers to Israel as the people of God&#8217;s pasture &#8230; This OT imagery of God as the Shepherd of Israel is likewise applied by Jesus to Himself in <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=746\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 10:11-17<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=752\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">26-30<\/span><\/a>, in one of the few NT passages where He explicitly affirms His co-identity with God. \u2014 Wechsler, page 230.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">In this last section, which is cited in its entirety in <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1695\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hebrews 3:7-11<\/span><\/a> (and explained thereafter through <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1717\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">4:10<\/span><\/a>), David presents, in the form of a challenge, the third\u2014and, with respect to its benefit for man, greatest\u2014reason for worshiping God with thanksgiving and joy, to wit: His undiminished, unretracted, and unrestricted gift of rest &#8230; A comprehensive or all-encompassing&#8221; rest, beginning with &#8220;spiritual&#8221; rest\u2014i.e., &#8220;resting&#8221; from our &#8220;works&#8221; to please God (since we never can; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1717\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hebrews 4:10<\/span><\/a>; see also <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3696\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Ephesians 2:8-9<\/span><\/a>) and accepting the work of salvation that He Himself has accomplished for us\u2014and eternally consummated by our future renewal to &#8220;incorruptibility&#8221; (see <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2532\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Corinthians 15:50<\/span><\/a>ff), when our minds and bodies are, like our souls, fully redeemed from corruption, and we enter into the eternal rest (i.e., unstained perfection and holiness) of the New Creation. \u2014 Wechsler, pages 230-231.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The writer of the Psalm was given words to speak for Jehovah to warn the whole house of Israel, but especially the unbelievers, that they must be obedient to God or perish (vs. 8-11). They are reminded of what happened to their forefathers in the wilderness of Sinai when they tried the patience and goodness of God by complaining of their hardships and their unbelief in God&#8217;s love and willingness and power to provide for them in the midst of a desert land. Read Exodus 17; Numbers 20 and 27:14. They were not permitted to enter the &#8220;rest&#8221; of the promised land, but died in the wilderness because of their rebellion. Other Scriptures reveal that many of Israel will be just as rebellious in the Tribulation, and will not heed the last call, thus they will suffer the judgments of the Lord. \u2014 Phillips, page 212.<\/span><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1 Oh come, let us sing to the Lord!
