class=\"chapternum\">1 <\/span>It is good to give thanks to the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>,<\/span><\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15414\" class=\"text Ps-92-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2 <\/sup>To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And Your faithfulness every night,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15415\" class=\"text Ps-92-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3 <\/sup>On an instrument of ten strings,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">On the lute,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And on the harp,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">With harmonious sound.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15416\" class=\"text Ps-92-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4 <\/sup>For You, <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>, have made me glad through Your work;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I will triumph in the works of Your hands.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15417\" class=\"text Ps-92-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>O <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>, how great are Your works!<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Your thoughts are very deep.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15418\" class=\"text Ps-92-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6 <\/sup>A senseless man does not know,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Nor does a fool understand this.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15419\" class=\"text Ps-92-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7 <\/sup>When the wicked spring up like grass,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And when all the workers of iniquity flourish,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It is that they may be destroyed forever.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15420\" class=\"text Ps-92-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>But You, <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>, are on high forevermore.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15421\" class=\"text Ps-92-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9 <\/sup>For behold, Your enemies, O <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">For behold, Your enemies shall perish;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">All the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15422\" class=\"text Ps-92-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I have been anointed with fresh oil.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15423\" class=\"text Ps-92-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11 <\/sup>My eye also has seen my desire on my enemies;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">My ears hear my desire on the wicked<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Who rise up against me.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15424\" class=\"text Ps-92-12\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-12\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15425\" class=\"text Ps-92-13\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13 <\/sup>Those who are planted in the house of the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span><\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-13\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Shall flourish in the courts of our God.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15426\" class=\"text Ps-92-14\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14 <\/sup>They shall still bear fruit in old age;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-14\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">They shall be fresh and flourishing,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-15427\" class=\"text Ps-92-15\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15 <\/sup>To declare that the <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> is upright;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<em><span class=\"text Ps-92-15\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>my desire (v.11) \u2014<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">To be sung on the Sabbath Day (according to ancient Jewish tradition, this psalm was sung by the Levites in the Second Temple at the time of the daily Sabbath offering). This unique psalmic association with the Sabbath (i.e., seventh day) is underscored by the observation that this is also the only psalm in which the Tetragrammaton (i.e., the divine name &#8220;Yahweh,&#8221; typically translated &#8220;LORD&#8221;) is repeated seven times\u2014which number signifies perfection\/completion and hence emphasizes the perfection not only of the original pre-Fall Sabbath, but also of the final, perfected Sabbath which the believer has already entered into by faith (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1717\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hebrews 4:9-10<\/span><\/a>), and of which the weekly Sabbath was intended to be a continual reminder. \u2014 Wechsler, pages 223-224.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The psalmist begins by praising God for the very fact that he is able to give thanks to Him (v.1)\u2014i.e., he recognizes that doing so (like worship in general) is not a right, but a privilege, granted on the basis not of the psalmist&#8217;s personal merit, but of God&#8217;s lovingkindness and faithfulness. \u2014 Wechsler, page 224<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Since persecution by the ungodly is an inevitable component in the lives of &#8220;all those who desire to live godly&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3538\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Timothy 2:12<\/span><\/a>), this model of weekly prayer\u2014which is intended to contribute to the spiritual-psychological &#8220;recharging&#8221; of the believer\u2014here reminds the worshiper that this life is but a drop in the ocean of eternity, and that the &#8220;sprouting up&#8221; (i.e., flourishing) of the wicked is like the grass. Though God in His forbearance may allow some among those who do iniquity (&#8230; indicates an ongoing, undiminished [i.e., unrepentant] lifestyle) a brief time to flourish (that, ideally, they might repent), He will inevitably requite them with destruction forevermore. \u2014 Wechsler, page 224.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">[This section (vs.10-15) focuses] not only on what God has <em>already done<\/em> for the psalmist\u2014i.e., that He has exalted his horn (symbolizing the giving of strength, based in God&#8217;s salvation) and anointed him with fresh oil (symbolizing the giving of joy)\u2014but also on what God <em>will yet do<\/em> for him\u2014i.e., that He will be planted (lit. transplanted) in the house of the Lord and flourish in His courts. \u2014 Wechsler, page 225.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Williams&#8217; take:<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Travelers through a wilderness soon grow weary. They need rest. So appropriately this third Wilderness Psalm sings of the Sabbath. Israel will be the singer on the morning of the Sabbath day of <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1717\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hebrews 4<\/span><\/a>. That is the Sabbath intended in the superscription. Then will be fulfilled the promise of the previous Psalm (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=7157\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v.14<\/span><\/a>). &#8220;I will set Him on high.&#8221; For Christ is God&#8217;s Sabbath. God rests with infinite repose in Him, and He invites man to share that rest with Him. &#8230; Israel here sins of Him and addresses Him as Jehovah (v.1), Elyon (v.1), and Elohim (v.13). \u2014 Williams, page 371<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Verse 8 reads: &#8220;Thou, O Jehovah, are enthroned for ever.&#8221; This statement, preceded and followed by declarations as to the destruction of the wicked, makes terribly clear the doctrine that the doctrine that the eternity of His government necessitates the eternity of their misery; for so long as His government lasts a rebellion and recovery by them will be impossible. \u2014 Williams, page 372.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Psalm.
