{"id":720,"date":"2009-11-29T05:00:33","date_gmt":"2009-11-29T11:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=720"},"modified":"2022-01-16T14:57:27","modified_gmt":"2022-01-16T20:57:27","slug":"john-91-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=720","title":{"rendered":"John 9:1-5"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">1<\/sup> Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2<\/sup> And His disciples asked Him, saying, \u201cRabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3<\/sup> Jesus answered, \u201cNeither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4<\/sup> I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5<\/sup> As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>How did the disciples know the man was born blind? (v. 2). Probably because he&#8217;d been sitting there every day for years. They thought his blindness was a punishment. But children are not punished for their parents&#8217; sins (Ezekiel 18:2-4).<\/h3>\n<h3>works of God (v. 3) in this case \u2014 sight and belief (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=658\">John 6:29<\/a><\/span>). God permits sin and death to show His glory here and in <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=760\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 11:4<\/span><\/a>. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>For He says to Moses, &#8220;I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=393\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Romans 9:15<\/span><\/a>). <\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>The man&#8217;s blindness was not inflicted by God, but God allowed nature (corrupted by sin) to run its course.<\/h3>\n<h3>neither this man nor his parents sinned (v.3) \u2014 Of course they sinned, but what Jesus was saying is that their sin was not the reason for his blindness. It was caused by the sin-corrupted world, not specific sins.<\/h3>\n<h3>day (v. 4) \u2014 while Christ was on earth<\/h3>\n<h3>night (v. 4) \u2014 until He returns. <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The night is far spent, the day is at hand.
