And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">47<\/sup> He who is of God hears God\u2019s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.&#8221;<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>Throughout this entire last part of Chapter 8, Jesus speaks of His sinlessness and His deity.<\/h3>\n<h3>None of them could point to any sin in Jesus (v. 46), including lying, but they still wouldn&#8217;t believe Him.<\/h3>\n<h3>why do you not believe Me? (v. 46) Jesus answers His own question \u2014 they were not of God.<\/h3>\n<h3>Jesus was God, so His truth was beyond anything they&#8217;d heard before \u2014 therefore, <u>because<\/u> He told them the truth, instead of what they&#8217;d expected to hear, they didn&#8217;t believe Him.<\/h3>\n<h3>The natural man cannot understand the things of God because he is without spiritual discernment.<\/h3>\n<h3>Men prefer lies to the truth.<\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4380\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Psalm 58:3<\/span><\/a> \u2014 <em>The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4407\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Psalm 62:4<\/span><\/a> \u2014 <em>They only consult to cast him down from his high position; they delight in lies;\u00a0they bless with their mouth,\u00a0but they curse inwardly.\u00a0\u00a0Selah.<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Isaiah 28:15 \u2014 <em>Because you have said, \u201cWe have made a covenant with death,\u00a0and with Sheol we are in agreement.\u00a0When the overflowing scourge passes through,\u00a0it will not come to us,\u00a0for we have made lies our refuge,\u00a0and under falsehood we have hidden ourselves.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3556\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Timothy 3:7<\/span><\/a> \u2014 <em>Always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3567\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Timothy 4:4<\/span><\/a> \u2014 <em>And they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>45 &#8220;But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Which of you convicts Me of sin?
