{"id":708,"date":"2009-11-11T05:00:42","date_gmt":"2009-11-11T11:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=708"},"modified":"2022-01-15T11:01:24","modified_gmt":"2022-01-15T17:01:24","slug":"john-837-40","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=708","title":{"rendered":"John 8:37-40"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup>37<\/sup> \u201cI know that you are Abraham\u2019s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">38<\/sup> I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">39<\/sup> They answered and said to Him, \u201cAbraham is our father.\u201d Jesus said to them, \u201cIf you were Abraham\u2019s children, you would do the works of Abraham.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">40<\/sup> But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>no place (v. 37) = no entrance<\/h3>\n<h3>Father \u2014 spiritual model<\/h3>\n<h3>your father (v. 38) \u2014 Satan. <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">You are of your father the devil (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=710\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 8:44<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>They couldn&#8217;t be Abraham&#8217;s children (v. 39) because they did not believe Jesus.
