44<\/sup> Now some of them wanted to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

45<\/sup> Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, \u201cWhy have you not brought Him?\u201d <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

46<\/sup> The officers answered, \u201cNo man ever spoke like this Man!\u201d <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

47<\/sup> Then the Pharisees answered them, \u201cAre you also deceived?<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

48<\/sup> Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him?<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

49<\/sup> But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.\u201d <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

50<\/sup> Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them, <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

51<\/sup> \u201cDoes our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?\u201d <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

52<\/sup> They answered and said to him, \u201cAre you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.\u201d <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

53<\/sup> And everyone went to his own house.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

The officers sent to arrest Jesus were so impressed by His words that they couldn’t bring themselves to carry out their orders. It wasn’t Jesus’ miracles that impressed the officers, but His Words.<\/h3>\n

Have any rulers … (v.47) \u2014 Surely (they said) if Jesus was really from God, we would have believed in Him. The commoners were confused because they didn’t know the law and didn’t know any better \u2014 or so the Pharisees claimed.<\/h3>\n

If Nicodemus believed back in John 3<\/span><\/a>, he hadn’t told his fellow Pharisees (v.50).<\/h3>\n

our law (v.52) \u2014 an accused person had a right to defend himself, to confront and cross-examine his accusers. One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established (Deuteronomy 19:15).<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

no prophet has arisen out of Galilee (v.52) \u2014 Elijah, Elisha, Amos and Jonah were<\/u> all from Galilee.<\/h3>\n

And<\/em> Isaiah 9:1-7 does<\/em> prophecy that the Messiah will be from Galilee.<\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
