40<\/sup> Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, \u201cTruly this is the Prophet.\u201d <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

41<\/sup> Others said, \u201cThis is the Christ.\u201d But some said, \u201cWill the Christ come out of Galilee? <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

42<\/sup> Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?\u201d <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

43<\/sup> So there was a division among the people because of Him.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

Prophet \u2014 mentioned by Moses in Deuteronomy 18:15-18 \u2014 The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, according to all you desired of the LORD your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, “Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.” And the LORD said to me: “What they have spoken is good. I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him.”<\/span><\/em> (also see John 6:14<\/a><\/span>)<\/h3>\n

The crowd thought He was from Galilee. He was born in Bethlehem, but they didn’t know that or trouble to find out. It was willful ignorance.<\/h3>\n

Jesus was the seed of David \u2014 Matthew 1:1-18<\/span><\/a>; Romans 1:3-4<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n

Bethlehem \u2014 But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,\u00a0though you are little among the thousands of Judah,\u00a0yet out of you shall come forth to Me\u00a0the One to be Ruler in Israel,\u00a0whose goings forth are from of old,\u00a0from everlasting (Micah 5:2).<\/span><\/em> Jesus was born in Bethlehem \u2014 Matthew 2:1-6<\/span><\/a>; Luke 2:1-11.<\/h3>\n

Jesus never referred to His birth in Bethlehem. He always pointed to His divine origin.<\/h3>\n
