Thou hast the words of eternal life. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">69 And we believe and are sure that Thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray Him, being one of the twelve.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>Christ knew what they would do. Why ask? To test them? To hear them state their faith? In Greek, this question expects a negative answer. Jesus knew their hearts.<\/h3>\n<h3>Peter was always the first to speak out, sometimes in rashness and ignorance, but sometimes, like here, in earnestness and faith.<\/h3>\n<h3>We believe and we are sure (v.69) \u2014 In Greek, the tense indicates an ongoing, abiding faith.<\/h3>\n<h3>The crowd had been attracted by Christ&#8217;s miracles, but Peter speaks of His words (v.68) See <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=671\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">verse 63<\/span><\/a>.<\/h3>\n<h3>Son of the living God (v.69) \u2014 literally, &#8220;the Holy One of God&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>John knew of Judas&#8217; betrayal when he wrote this (v.71), but not at the time Christ said it..<\/h3>\n<h3>devil (v.70) \u2014 sold out to Satan (John <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=807\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">13:2<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=819\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">27<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<h3>So why did Christ choose Judas? <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Yea, Mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of My bread, hath lifted up his heel against Me (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4013\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Psalm 41:9<\/span><\/a>). While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Thy name: those that Thou gavest Me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=888\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 17:12<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>Judas, who spent three years with Christ and never believed still couldn&#8217;t find any flaws in Him. <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3344\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Matthew 27:4<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go?
