{"id":5864,"date":"2022-01-30T10:58:32","date_gmt":"2022-01-30T16:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=5864"},"modified":"2023-09-14T04:50:14","modified_gmt":"2023-09-14T10:50:14","slug":"genesis-4516-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=5864","title":{"rendered":"Genesis 45:16-28"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1375\" class=\"text Gen-45-16\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>Now the report of it was heard in Pharaoh\u2019s house, saying, \u201cJoseph\u2019s brothers have come.\u201d So it pleased Pharaoh and his servants well.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1376\" class=\"text Gen-45-17\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>And Pharaoh said to Joseph, \u201cSay to your brothers, \u2018Do this: Load your animals and depart; go to the land of Canaan.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1377\" class=\"text Gen-45-18\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>Bring your father and your households and come to me; I will give you the best of the land of Egypt, and you will eat the fat of the land.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1378\" class=\"text Gen-45-19\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>Now you are commanded\u2014do this: Take carts out of the land of Egypt for your little ones and your wives; bring your father and come.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1379\" class=\"text Gen-45-20\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>Also do not be concerned about your goods, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1380\" class=\"text Gen-45-21\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>Then the sons of Israel did so; and Joseph gave them carts, according to the command of Pharaoh, and he gave them provisions for the journey.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1381\" class=\"text Gen-45-22\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>He gave to all of them, to each man, changes of garments; but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver and five changes of garments.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1382\" class=\"text Gen-45-23\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>And he sent to his father these things: ten donkeys loaded with the good things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain, bread, and food for his father for the journey.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1383\" class=\"text Gen-45-24\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>So he sent his brothers away, and they departed; and he said to them, \u201cSee that you do not become troubled along the way.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1384\" class=\"text Gen-45-25\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup>Then they went up out of Egypt, and came to the land of Canaan to Jacob their father.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1385\" class=\"text Gen-45-26\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup>And they told him, saying, \u201cJoseph is still alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt.\u201d And Jacob\u2019s heart stood still, because he did not believe them.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1386\" class=\"text Gen-45-27\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup>But when they told him all the words which Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-1387\" class=\"text Gen-45-28\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28\u00a0<\/sup>Then Israel said, \u201cIt is enough. Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Joseph was greatly esteemed in Egypt, by everyone from Pharaoh on down. He in fact had been Egypt&#8217;s deliverer, and the whole nation was grateful. &#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Pharaoh instructed Joseph to tell his brothers to return to Canaan and to bring their father and all their households into Egypt, promising that they would receive the good things of Egypt and eat the &#8220;fat&#8221; (that is, the best food) of the land. Pharaoh so insisted that they come to Egypt that he actually &#8220;commanded&#8221; them to do this. He even gave them wagons with which they could bring their wives and children and their father, in order to make the journey as easy as possible for them. These &#8220;wagons&#8221; were essentially carts, usually on two wooden wheels, drawn by oxen or horses. This is the first mention of wagons in the Bible and suggests that they were essentially unique to Egypt at that time.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Pharaoh further instructed them not to try to pack up all their &#8220;stuff,&#8221; or &#8220;vessels.&#8221; He would give them all the utensils and miscellaneous household items they would need, when they reached Egypt. \u2014 Morris, page 624.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">As Joseph sent his brothers away, he wished them well and admonished them to &#8220;fall not out by the way.&#8221; The more common meaning [of this word] is &#8220;be troubled.&#8221; Thus, Joseph was telling them not to let doubts or fears arise again to trouble them after they had left him. Every one of his promises was genuine, and he wanted them all to move down to Egypt with minimum delay. \u2014 Morris, page 625.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">It is noteworthy that, as [a] change in attitude came over Jacob, the narrative, which had been calling him by his old name, Jacob (vs. 25-27), suddenly begins calling him Israel again (v.28). &#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">No comment is made on what his sons must have told him about how Joseph got to Egypt in the first place. &#8230; Morris, page 625<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">It may mean (v.23) prepared meat; some made-up dishes, delicacies, confectioneries, etc. In Asiatic countries they have several curious methods of preserving flesh by potting, by which it may be kept, for any length of time, sweet and wholesome.
