35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

36 And looking upon Jesus as He walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto Him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where He dwelt, and abode with Him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

John the Baptist’s ministry was to point people to Christ.<\/h3>\n

two disciples \u2014 Andrew and, probably John, the author of the book.<\/h3>\n

Andrew and John were disciples of John the Baptist who promised to show them the Messiah. They followed him until he did just that.<\/h3>\n

Rabbi \u2014 John interprets the title for his Greek readers<\/h3>\n

Where dwellest Thou? \u2014 they sought fellowship.<\/h3>\n

Come \u2014 Christ’s first recorded words in John. All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out (John 6:37<\/span><\/a>). <\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me (John 14:6<\/span><\/a>).<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n

tenth hour = four p.m.<\/h3>\n

This is the final recorded time John the Baptist saw Christ. His ministry was decreasing as Christ’s began.<\/h3>\n

John 1:35-42 tells of the disciples’ conversion. Mark 1:16-20, occurring later, is their call to service (which was to Israel and isn’t the focus of John’s gospel).<\/h3>\n
