{"id":5074,"date":"2021-12-07T10:23:15","date_gmt":"2021-12-07T16:23:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=5074"},"modified":"2022-06-21T09:13:27","modified_gmt":"2022-06-21T15:13:27","slug":"2-corinthians-96-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=5074","title":{"rendered":"2 Corinthians 9:6-9"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span class=\"text 2Cor-9-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28964\" class=\"text 2Cor-9-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28965\" class=\"text 2Cor-9-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-28966\" class=\"text 2Cor-9-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>As it is written: <\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-9-9\"><span class=\"oblique\">\u201cHe has dispersed abroad, h<\/span><\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-9-9\"><span class=\"oblique\">e has given to the poor; h<\/span><\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-9-9\"><span class=\"oblique\">is righteousness endures forever.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">But [although I am not pressing you to give] this [is true] \u2014 he who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly, and he who sows in a beneficent, generous spirit, with a view to the blessing of the recipient, shall also reap blessings given in a beneficent, generous manner. Let each one give according as he has purposed in his heart, not out of an annoyed and troubled heart, nor because of necessity, for God loves a cheerful, ready giver. Moreover, God is powerful to make every grace superabound to you in order that, having always an all-sufficiency in all things, you may superabound to every good work, even as it stands written, He [the liberal person] scattered abroad, he gave to those who are poor, his righteousness abides forever. \u2014 Wuest, page 430.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>sparingly (v.6) = abstemiously, stingily<\/h3>\n<h3>bountifully (v.6) = &#8220;with blessing,&#8221; with the idea of benefit<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Facts in the spiritual realm harmonize with those in the physical (v.6). Many a farmer has a poor crop because he sows sparingly, and many a Christian suffers inward poverty because of outward illiberality. God loves a cheerful believer; but few people believe it. \u2014 Williams, page 905.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>purposes (v.7) = prefer, to choose for oneself before another thing, to intend<\/h3>\n<h3>grudgingly (v.7) = with a sour, reluctant mind<\/h3>\n<h3>necessity (v.7) = compulsion<\/h3>\n<h3>cheerful (v.7) = joyful, not grudging, prompt, willing<\/h3>\n<h3>abound and abundance (v.8) = exceed the ordinary, overflow, to be over and above<\/h3>\n<h3>sufficiency (v.8) = independence, contentment<\/h3>\n<h3>The quote in verse 9 is from Psalm 112:9 \u2014 <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-15813\" class=\"text Ps-112-9\">He has dispersed abroad, h<\/span><span class=\"text Ps-112-9\">e has given to the poor; h<\/span><span class=\"text Ps-112-9\">is righteousness endures forever; h<\/span><span class=\"text Ps-112-9\">is horn will be exalted with honor.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>dispersed (v.9) = scatter abroad<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The apostle does not say that God will recompense generous contributors with material things. We cannot <em>use<\/em> God in this way &#8230; but He surely will enrich their lives and make them more rewarding than they ever were. <\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Whatever we do, we should avoid giving &#8220;grudgingly,&#8221; or &#8220;of necessity,&#8221; i.e. because we don&#8217;t know how to avoid it. &#8230; God knows our hearts and knows whether we do or do not really want to make a sacrifice for Him. This is why Paul goes on to say in v.7, &#8220;for God loveth a cheerful giver.&#8221; (The Greek word here is <em>hilaros<\/em>, our &#8220;hilarious.&#8221;) We have a good example of this in the Macedonians. They gave gleefully, happily.
