We have spoken openly to you, our heart is wide open.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28911\" class=\"text 2Cor-6-12\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28912\" class=\"text 2Cor-6-13\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>Now in return for the same (I speak as to children), you also be open.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28913\" class=\"text 2Cor-6-14\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28914\" class=\"text 2Cor-6-15\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-28915\" class=\"text 2Cor-6-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: <\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-6-16\"><span class=\"oblique\">\u201cI will dwell in them a<\/span><\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-6-16\"><span class=\"oblique\">nd walk among<\/span> them. <\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-6-16\"><span class=\"oblique\">I will be their God, a<\/span><\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-6-16\"><span class=\"oblique\">nd they shall be My people.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-28916\" class=\"text 2Cor-6-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore <\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-6-17\"><span class=\"oblique\">\u201cCome out from among them a<\/span><\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-6-17\"><span class=\"oblique\">nd be separate, says the Lord. <\/span><\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-6-17\"><span class=\"oblique\">Do not touch what is unclean, a<\/span><\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-6-17\"><span class=\"oblique\">nd I will receive you.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"line\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-28917\" class=\"text 2Cor-6-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18 <\/sup><span class=\"oblique\">\u201cI<\/span> <span class=\"oblique\">will be a Father to you, a<\/span><\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-6-18\"><span class=\"oblique\">nd you shall be My<\/span> <span class=\"oblique\">sons and daughters, s<\/span><\/span><span class=\"text 2Cor-6-18\"><span class=\"oblique\">ays the<\/span> <span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> <span class=\"oblique\">Almighty.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>restricted (v.12) = kept in a tight place, press upon, cramp, restrain<\/h3>\n<h3>affections (v.12) = the capacity to feel deep emotions, the seat of feelings<\/h3>\n<h3>open (v.13) = enlarge, broaden, (of the growth of tenderness and love)<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Our mouth stands open to you [we speak freely to you, we keep nothing back]. O Corinthians, our hear is broadened and enlarged [widened in its sympathy towards you]. You are not compressed nor narrowed down in us [you have ample space in our heart; we hold you within a great love], but you are compressed and narrowed down in your affections [you have tightened up in your affection for me]. Now, as a return in kind for my affections toward you, as to children I am speaking to you, you also be enlarged [make a large place in your heart for me]. \u2014 Wuest, page 425.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">________________________________________________________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">&#8220;Let&#8217;s balance this thing out,&#8221; [Paul] says. I have a large place in my heart for you, especially under these circumstances. My heart is enlarged toward you; now let yours be enlarged toward me.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">This was an appropriate exhortation, for the love between Paul and the Corinthians believers had not been mutual. In <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=5240\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Corinthians 12:15<\/span><\/a> he had to write: &#8220;I will very gladly spend and be spent for you, though the more abundantly I love you the less I be loved.&#8221; \u2014\u00a0 Stam, page 155.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>Belial (v.15) &#8211; Satan, lit. &#8220;the one who is utterly worthless because vile&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>The quote in verse 16 is from Ezekiel 37:26-27: <em><span id=\"en-NKJV-21424\" class=\"text Ezek-37-26\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them, and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them; I will establish them and multiply them, and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore. <\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-21425\" class=\"text Ezek-37-27\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">My tabernacle also shall be with them; indeed I will be their God, and they shall be My people.<\/span> <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>The quote in verse 17 is probably a loose quotation from Isaiah 52:11: <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Depart! Depart! Go out from there, touch no unclean thing; Go out from the midst of her, be clean, you who bear the vessels of the Lord.<\/span><\/em> With perhaps a line tagged on from Ezekiel 20:34: <em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand, with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>The quote in verse 18 is another collection of citations: \u201c<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I will be a Father. . . .<\/span><\/em>\u201d from 2 Samuel 7:14; \u201c<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Sons and daughters<\/span><\/em>\u201d from Isaiah 43:6; \u201c<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Saith the Lord Almighty<\/span><\/em>\u201d from the Greek of 2 Samuel 7:8<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Note carefully: Verse 16 does not say &#8220;What agreement hath the temple of God with the temple of Satan?&#8221; It says, &#8220;What agreement hath the temple of God with idols?&#8221; You can&#8217;t consistently have a pagan idol in the temple of god. How can God share His temple\u2014&#8221;which temple ye are&#8221;\u2014with an idol?<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">If God could not endure the presence of idols in the land He gave to Israel, how can we expect Him to tolerate the presence of idols in the believer&#8217;s heart and mind? \u2014 Stam, page 157.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">________________________________________________________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Separation, Summary: (1) Separation in Scripture is twofold: (a) <em>from<\/em> whatever is contrary to the mind of God; and (b) <em>unto<\/em> God Himself. The underlying principle is that in a moral universe it is impossible for God fully to bless and use His children who are in compromise or complicity with evil. (2) Separation from evil implies (1) separation in desire, motive, and act, from the world, in the ethically bad sense of this present world system; and (b) separation from false teachers, who are described as being &#8220;vessels &#8230; to dishonor&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3547\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Timothy 2:20-21<\/span><\/a>). (3) Separation is not from contact with evil in the world or the church, but from complicity with and conformity to it (verses 14-18; cp. <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=888\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">John 17:15<\/span><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1103\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Galatians 6:1<\/span><\/a>). and (4) the reward of separation is the full manifestation of the divine fatherhood (verses 17-18); unhindered communion and worship (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1843\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hebrews 13:13-15<\/span><\/a>), and fruitful service (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3547\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Timothy 2:21<\/span><\/a>), as world conformity involves the loss of these, though not of salvation. Here, as in all else, Christ is the model. He was &#8220;holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1759\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Hebrews 7:26<\/span><\/a>), and yet He was in such contact with them for their salvation that the Pharisees, who illustrate the mechanical and ascetic conception of separation, judged Him as having lost His Nazirite character (Luke 7:39). \u2014Scofield, page 1257.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">________________________________________________________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Lord Almighty (v.18) \u2014 This glorious title &#8220;Jehovah Shaddai&#8221; occurs only here and six times in the Revelation\u2014seven times in all the N.T. The Hebrew word <em>shad<\/em> means a woman&#8217;s breast. The title <em>Shaddai<\/em> suggests love and unfailing benevolence. \u2014 Williams, page 903.<\/span><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>11\u00a0O Corinthians!
