{"id":4973,"date":"2021-06-26T13:38:59","date_gmt":"2021-06-26T19:38:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4973"},"modified":"2022-05-03T16:14:38","modified_gmt":"2022-05-03T22:14:38","slug":"2-corinthians-55-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4973","title":{"rendered":"2 Corinthians 5:5-8"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"chapter-1\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28883\" class=\"text 2Cor-5-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28884\" class=\"text 2Cor-5-6\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28885\" class=\"text 2Cor-5-7\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>For we walk by faith, not by sight.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28886\" class=\"text 2Cor-5-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Now, He who by His working in us made us fit for this very thing [the change from mortality to live] is God, He who gave us the Spirit as a token payment in kind, guaranteeing to us the rest of our salvation. Being therefore always confident, and knowing that while we are in our natural home [for this earthly existence] in our body, we are living abroad, absent from [that home in heaven] the Lord, for through faith we are ordering our manner of life, not by something seen. Now, we are of good courage and well pleased rather to be away from our body as our home, and at home face to face with the Lord. \u2014 Wuest, page 423.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">[Paul] groaned in his mortal body for it was burdened with pain and mortality, but he knew that the faithful God who wrought his house for him (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4967\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v.1<\/span><\/a>) wrought him for it (v.5), and as an earnest and pledge of the double fact, had given him His Holy Spirit. A body indwelt of that Spirit must of necessity rise from among the dead. God had fashioned him for this glory\u2014the Resurrection glory of Christ. Paul was God&#8217;s workmanship, and the indwelling of the Spirit secured his enjoyment of the fact. \u2014 Williams, page 901.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Paul&#8217;s epistles as a whole speak, not of three physical bodies for the believer but of <em>two<\/em>. The one has to do with <em>this life<\/em>; the other with <em>the life to come<\/em> (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Corinthians 5:1<\/span>). <\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The one Paul calls a <em>tent<\/em>, the other a <em>building<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4967\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Corinthians 5:1<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The one is <em>earthly<\/em>, the other <em>from heaven<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4967\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Corinthians 5:2<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The one is <em>temporary<\/em>, the other <em>eternal<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4967\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Corinthians 5:1<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The one is <em>corruptible<\/em>, the other <em>incorruptible<\/em> (cf., <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2535\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Corinthians 15:54<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The one is called <em>vile and humiliating<\/em>, the other <em>glorious, like Christ&#8217;s glorious body<\/em> (cf. <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1204\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Philippians 3:21<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">In the one we <em>groan<\/em>, in the other\u2014<em>forever blessed<\/em> (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4967\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Corinthians 5:4<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">We have seen, too, that <em>time is not a factor<\/em> in eternity, so that Paul did not long for disembodiment at death, or for a temporal, intermediate body between death and resurrection. He longed to be <em>with Christ<\/em>, that mortality might be swallowed up of <em>life<\/em> and that he might receive his &#8220;house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4967\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Corinthians 5:1, 4<\/span><\/a>).<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Now it is in view of this promised coming glory that the apostle declares, &#8220;<em>Therefore, we are always confident<\/em>&#8221; (v.6).<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Our glorious position with Christ in the heavenlies and all of our &#8220;all spiritual blessings&#8221; there, are enjoyed by faith, not by sight. Indeed, there is nothing for sight in our present situation, for &#8220;<em>the things which are seen are temporal<\/em>&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4961\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">4:18<\/span><\/a>), but there is much, so much, for faith, for by faith &#8220;<em>we look &#8230; at the things which are not seen<\/em>&#8221; and these are &#8220;<em>eternal<\/em>.&#8221;<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">But this present situation is not the <em>best<\/em>: it is future, not present; we enjoy it only by faith.
