{"id":4808,"date":"2020-08-09T11:00:21","date_gmt":"2020-08-09T17:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4808"},"modified":"2023-08-11T06:30:12","modified_gmt":"2023-08-11T12:30:12","slug":"genesis-2415-49","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4808","title":{"rendered":"Genesis 24:15-49"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-607\" class=\"text Gen-24-15\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>And it happened, before he had finished speaking, that behold, Rebekah,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-607\" class=\"text Gen-24-15\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"> who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham\u2019s brother, came out with her pitcher on her shoulder.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-608\" class=\"text Gen-24-16\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>Now the young woman\u00a0was very beautiful to behold, a virgin; no man had known her. And she went down to the well, filled her pitcher, and came up.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-609\" class=\"text Gen-24-17\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>And the servant ran to meet her and said, \u201cPlease let me drink a little water from your pitcher.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-610\" class=\"text Gen-24-18\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>So she said, \u201cDrink, my lord.\u201d Then she quickly let her pitcher down to her hand, and gave him a drink.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-611\" class=\"text Gen-24-19\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said, \u201cI will draw\u00a0water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-612\" class=\"text Gen-24-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough, ran back to the well to draw\u00a0water,\u00a0and drew for all his camels.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-613\" class=\"text Gen-24-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>And the man, wondering at her, remained silent so as to know whether\u00a0the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>\u00a0had made his journey prosperous or not.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-614\" class=\"text Gen-24-22\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>So it was, when the camels had finished drinking, that the man took a golden\u00a0nose ring weighing half a shekel, and two bracelets for her wrists weighing ten\u00a0shekels of gold,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-615\" class=\"text Gen-24-23\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>and said, \u201cWhose daughter\u00a0are\u00a0you? Tell me, please, is there room\u00a0in\u00a0your father\u2019s house for us to lodge?\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-616\" class=\"text Gen-24-24\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>So she said to him,\u00a0\u201cI\u00a0am the daughter of Bethuel, Milcah\u2019s son, whom she bore to Nahor.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-617\" class=\"text Gen-24-25\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup>Moreover she said to him, \u201cWe have both straw and feed enough, and room to lodge.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-618\" class=\"text Gen-24-26\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">26\u00a0<\/sup>Then the man\u00a0bowed down his head and worshiped the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-619\" class=\"text Gen-24-27\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup>And he said,\u00a0\u201cBlessed\u00a0be\u00a0the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>\u00a0God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken\u00a0His mercy and His truth toward my master. As for me, being on the way, the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> led me to the house of my master\u2019s brethren.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-620\" class=\"text Gen-24-28\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28\u00a0<\/sup>So the young woman ran and told her mother\u2019s household these things.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-621\" class=\"text Gen-24-29\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup>Now Rebekah had a brother whose name\u00a0was Laban, and Laban ran out to the man by the well.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-622\" class=\"text Gen-24-30\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup>So it came to pass, when he saw the nose ring, and the bracelets on his sister\u2019s wrists, and when he heard the words of his sister Rebekah, saying, \u201cThus the man spoke to me,\u201d that he went to the man. And there he stood by the camels at the well.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-623\" class=\"text Gen-24-31\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup>And he said, \u201cCome in,\u00a0O blessed of the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>! Why do you stand outside? For I have prepared the house, and a place for the camels.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-624\" class=\"text Gen-24-32\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>Then the man came to the house. And he unloaded the camels, and\u00a0provided straw and feed for the camels, and water to\u00a0wash his feet and the feet of the men who\u00a0were with him.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-625\" class=\"text Gen-24-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>Food was set before him to eat, but he said,\u00a0\u201cI will not eat until I have told about my errand.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"text Gen-24-33\">And he said, \u201cSpeak on.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-626\" class=\"text Gen-24-34\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>So he said, \u201cI\u00a0am Abraham\u2019s servant.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-627\" class=\"text Gen-24-35\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>The\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great; and He has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male and female servants, and camels and donkeys.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-628\" class=\"text Gen-24-36\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup>And Sarah my master\u2019s wife bore a son to my master when she was old; and to him he has given all that he has.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-629\" class=\"text Gen-24-37\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37\u00a0<\/sup>Now my master made me swear, saying, \u2018You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell;<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-630\" class=\"text Gen-24-38\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">38\u00a0<\/sup>but you shall go to my father\u2019s house and to my family, and take a wife for my son.\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-631\" class=\"text Gen-24-39\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">39\u00a0<\/sup>And I said to my master, \u2018Perhaps the woman will not follow me.\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-632\" class=\"text Gen-24-40\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">40\u00a0<\/sup>But he said to me, \u2018The\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>, before whom I walk, will send His angel with you and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son from my family and from my father\u2019s house.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-633\" class=\"text Gen-24-41\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">41\u00a0<\/sup>You will be clear from this oath when you arrive among my family; for if they will not give\u00a0her\u00a0to you, then you will be released from my oath.\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-634\" class=\"text Gen-24-42\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">42\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cAnd this day I came to the well and said,\u00a0\u2018O\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> God of my master Abraham, if You will now prosper the way in which I go,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-635\" class=\"text Gen-24-43\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">43\u00a0<\/sup>behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass that when the virgin comes out to draw\u00a0water, and I say to her, \u201cPlease give me a little water from your pitcher to drink,\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-636\" class=\"text Gen-24-44\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">44\u00a0<\/sup>and she says to me, \u201cDrink, and I will draw for your camels also,\u201d\u2014let\u00a0her\u00a0be\u00a0the woman whom the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>\u00a0has appointed for my master\u2019s son.\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-637\" class=\"text Gen-24-45\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">45\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cBut before I had finished\u00a0speaking in my heart, there was Rebekah, coming out with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down to the well and drew\u00a0water. And I said to her, \u2018Please let me drink.\u2019<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-638\" class=\"text Gen-24-46\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">46\u00a0<\/sup>And she made haste and let her pitcher down from her\u00a0shoulder, and said, \u2018Drink, and I will give your camels a drink also.\u2019 So I drank, and she gave the camels a drink also.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-639\" class=\"text Gen-24-47\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">47\u00a0<\/sup>Then I asked her, and said, \u2018Whose daughter\u00a0are you?\u2019 And she said, \u2018The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor\u2019s son, whom Milcah bore to him.\u2019 So I put the nose ring on her nose and the bracelets on her wrists.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-640\" class=\"text Gen-24-48\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">48\u00a0<\/sup>And I bowed my head and worshiped the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span>, and blessed the\u00a0<span class=\"small-caps divine-name\">Lord<\/span> God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the way of truth to\u00a0take the daughter of my master\u2019s brother for his son.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-641\" class=\"text Gen-24-49\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">49\u00a0<\/sup>Now if you will\u00a0deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me. And if not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand or to the left.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">It was when Laban saw the jewelry upon his sister&#8217;s hands, that he showed kindness to Eliezer; but Rebekah showed him kindness before she saw. This was characteristic of Laban. \u2014 Williams, page 28.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Before there was any possibility of being distracted by other girls coming to the well\u2014indeed, before he was done speaking\u2014Rebekah arrived, ready to draw water. &#8230; God not only had immediately sent a girl who made the generous offer he had prayed for, but she was a beautiful girl, obviously kind, energetic, strong, and hospitable. &#8230; in appreciation for her generous service, the man then took three golden rings (one for the nose\u2014not earrings), all very valuable, and gave them to Rebekah.\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">When he learned that this lovely and gracious young woman was none other than Rebekah herself, about whom they had learned back in Hebron, Isaac&#8217;s second cousin, he was almost overcome with emotion. He had to stop immediately, bow down and worship the Lord, in audible thanksgiving to the God who had so richly answered his prayer and the prayer of his master Abraham. \u2014 Morris, pages 397-398.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">__________<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Since he was making a proposal of marriage, it was of course proper to give a clear statement of his master&#8217;s financial status, which he did most impressively, ascribing all the credit for Abraham&#8217;s wealth to God rather than to his business acumen. He also noted that Isaac had been made sole heir of all this wealth, and its attendant responsibility.
