{"id":468,"date":"2009-01-31T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-01-31T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/1002things.com\/?p=468"},"modified":"2022-04-01T10:21:02","modified_gmt":"2022-04-01T16:21:02","slug":"romans-151-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=468","title":{"rendered":"Romans 15:1-4"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span class=\"text Rom-15-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">1 We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28306\" class=\"text Rom-15-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28307\" class=\"text Rom-15-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, <span class=\"oblique\">\u201cThe reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28308\" class=\"text Rom-15-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>ought \u2014 in old English, this was the past tense of &#8220;owe.&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>for his good \u2014 The point isn&#8217;t to satisfy another person&#8217;s selfish desires, but to look out for his best interests.<\/h3>\n<h3>The quote in verse 3 is from <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=6248\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Psalm 69:9<\/span><\/a> \u2014\u00a0\u00a0<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">For the zeal of Thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached Thee are fallen upon me.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>Christ voluntarily allowed man&#8217;s hostility to fall on Him.
