{"id":4282,"date":"2016-06-12T07:20:35","date_gmt":"2016-06-12T13:20:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4282"},"modified":"2023-03-11T08:32:55","modified_gmt":"2023-03-11T14:32:55","slug":"1-thessalonians-516-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4282","title":{"rendered":"1 Thessalonians 5:16-18"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29638\" class=\"text 1Thess-5-16\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>Rejoice always,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29639\" class=\"text 1Thess-5-17\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>pray without ceasing,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29640\" class=\"text 1Thess-5-18\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>rejoice (v.16) = from Greek <em>xairo<\/em>, which is from <em>xar<\/em> = favorably disposed, leaning towards \u2014 the word is closely linked to the word for grace, <em>xaris<\/em> \u2014 so the sense here is to consciously delight in God&#8217;s grace (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1208\">Philippians 4:4<\/a><\/span>)<\/h3>\n<h3>always (v.16) \u2014 independent of circumstances<\/h3>\n<h3>pray (v.17) = from <i>pr\u00f3s<\/i>, &#8220;towards, exchange&#8221; and <i>euxomai<\/i>, &#8220;to wish, pray&#8221; \u2014 properly, to exchange wishes<\/h3>\n<h3>without ceasing (v.17) = the Greek word is used for a hacking cough \u2014 constantly occurring, as in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4143\">1 Thessalonians 1:2-3<\/a><\/span>.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">give thanks (v.18) = <em>eucharisteo<\/em>, to give thanks with delight, from <em>charis<\/em>, that which gives pleasure or delight \u2014\u00a0 We should delight with gratitude to let Him have His way with us &#8220;in everything.&#8221; This is His will &#8220;in Christ Jesus&#8221; concerning us. And, remember, it was &#8220;in Christ Jesus&#8221; that His whole great plan of salvation centered. Thus as He delights in us \u2014 <em>charis<\/em> is the very word for &#8220;grace&#8221; \u2014 we should gratefully delight in His delight of us \u2014 mutual delight! And this should be so no matter what the circumstances, for what we have and are in Christ does not change. \u2014 Stam, page 101.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>in everything (v.18) \u2014 in any circumstance<\/h3>\n<h3>for this (v.18) \u2014 referring to rejoicing, praying without ceasing and giving thanks in all circumstances<\/h3>\n<h3>the will of God (v.18) \u2014 as in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4229\">1 Thessalonians 4:3<\/a><\/span>, God has informed us clearly what His will for us is<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Christ Jesus (v.18) \u2014 In Paul&#8217;s letters the order is always in harmony with the context.
