14\u00a0<\/sup>Now we exhort you, brethren, warn those who are unruly, comfort the fainthearted, uphold the weak, be patient with all.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

15\u00a0<\/sup>See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

warn (v.14) \u2014 same word translated “admonish” in v.12<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n

unruly (v.14) \u2014 a military term for those who break rank or are insubordinate \u2014 Perhaps referring to those who had given up working in anticipation of the Lord’s return (2 Thessalonians 3:11<\/span><\/a>). If that’s the case, unruliness involves idleness, officiousness and excitability.<\/h3>\n

comfort (v.14) = from Greek words meaning “from close-beside,” “soothing speaking” \u2014 properly, comforting that shows sympathy (encouragement), cheering someone up by soothing speech with a “personal touch,” as in 1 Thessalonians 2:11<\/a><\/span>.<\/h3>\n

fainthearted (v.14) = lit. “small-souled” \u2014 despondent, overly sensitive, apprehensive<\/h3>\n

uphold (v.14) = support, keep close to<\/h3>\n

weak (v.14) \u2014 perhaps from lack of knowledge, lack of courage, lack of stability, or lack of discipline (1 Corinthians 9:22<\/a><\/span>).<\/h3>\n

patient (v.14) = lit. “long-tempered” \u2014 self-restraint in the face of provocation<\/h3>\n

see (v.15) \u2014 keep watchful<\/h3>\n

renders (v.15) = gives back<\/h3>\n

evil (v.15) = that which causes injury or works mischief of any kind<\/h3>\n

always (v.15) \u2014 without exception<\/h3>\n

pursue (v.15) = earnestly follow, as a hunter after his quarry<\/h3>\n
