And the dead in Christ will rise first.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29621\" class=\"text 1Thess-4-17\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29622\" class=\"text 1Thess-4-18\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore comfort one another with these words.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>Himself (v.16) \u2014 in the position of emphasis in the original<\/h3>\n<h3>shout (v.16) = a word of command, often used for military commands<\/h3>\n<h3>archangel (v.16) = angel of the highest rank, chief angel \u2014 The word that forms the prefix here, &#8220;<em>arche<\/em>,&#8221; is translated &#8220;principalities&#8221;\u00a0 or &#8220;rulers&#8221; in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2050\">Colossians 1:16<\/a><\/span>. \u2014 Michael is the only archangel mentioned in Scripture (Jude 1:9).<\/h3>\n<h3>Vine believes the descriptions in verse 16 may all describe a single sound, &#8220;with a shout in the archangel&#8217;s voice, even with the voice of the trump of God.&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>dead in Christ (v.16) \u2014 those who sleep (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4247\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">vs. 13-15<\/span><\/a>) \u2014 &#8220;in Christ&#8221; refers only to believers who have died. The resurrection of the unsaved to judgment happens at a different time.<\/h3>\n<h3>caught up (v.17) \u2014 conveys the idea of force suddenly exercised \u2014 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2535\">1 Corinthians 15:51-53<\/a><\/span> \u2014 the word &#8220;rapture&#8221; comes from the Latin for &#8220;caught up&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Elsewhere it is stated concerning the dead in Christ that they shall be raised in incorruptible bodies, i.e., bodies not liable to decay which sooner or later reduces to its elements every living organism of which mankind has any experience. This change is described in a series of contrasts in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2526\">1 Corinthians 15:42-44<\/a><\/span>, and further in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2535\">vs. 52-54<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">And concerning the living believers it is stated that, in as much as in its present natural condition the body cannot enter upon its heavenly inheritance, their bodies shall be changed, &#8220;in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye&#8221; and without passing through the experience of death; for &#8220;this mortal [body] must put on immortality,&#8221; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2532\">1 Corinthians 15:47-49<\/a><\/span>; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1204\">Philippians 3:20-21<\/a><\/span>. \u2014 Vine, page 69<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>comfort (v.18) = encourage, exhort, be an advocate for<\/h3>\n<h3>To go beyond this passage for a moment &#8230; I believe the Judgment Seat of Christ, where believers with be rewarded for their good works, will occur at the Rapture.<\/h3>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-29878\" class=\"text 2Tim-4-7\">I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-29879\" class=\"text 2Tim-4-8\">Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>on that Day<\/strong><\/span>, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3571\">2 Timothy 4:7-8<\/a><\/span>).<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>16\u00a0For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God.
