{"id":4200,"date":"2016-04-29T08:21:55","date_gmt":"2016-04-29T14:21:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4200"},"modified":"2023-02-28T14:57:19","modified_gmt":"2023-02-28T20:57:19","slug":"1-thessalonians-31-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4200","title":{"rendered":"1 Thessalonians 3:1-4"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span class=\"text 1Thess-3-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">1 Therefore, when we could no longer endure it, we thought it good to be left in Athens alone,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29593\" class=\"text 1Thess-3-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>and sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God, and our fellow laborer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29594\" class=\"text 1Thess-3-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>that no one should be shaken by these afflictions; for you yourselves know that we are appointed to this. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29595\" class=\"text 1Thess-3-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>For, in fact, we told you before when we were with you that we would suffer tribulation, just as it happened, and you know.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>therefore (v.1) \u2014 because of Paul&#8217;s affection for them and his (frustrated) desire to see them again (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=4196\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1 Thessalonians 2:17-20<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<h3>endure (v.1) = lit.&#8221; by covering to keep off&#8221; \u2014 to bear up against, to hold out against, bear, forbear \u2014 Paul could no longer endure\u00a0 the suspense of being away from them while not knowing how they were holding up<\/h3>\n<h3>we (v.1) \u2014 Paul, Timothy, and Silas all loved the Thessalonians and they all though it best for Paul to be left in Athens alone while they went to visit.<\/h3>\n<h3>Athens (v.1) \u2014 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1679\">Acts 17:15<\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">alone (v.1) \u2014 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=1682\">Acts 17:16<\/a><\/span> is no contradiction. Verse 16 explains.
