18\u00a0<\/sup>praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints \u2014<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

19\u00a0<\/sup>and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

20\u00a0<\/sup>for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

21\u00a0<\/sup>But that you also may know my affairs and how I am doing, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make all things known to you;<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

22\u00a0<\/sup>whom I have sent to you for this very purpose, that you may know our affairs, and that he may comfort your hearts.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

23\u00a0<\/sup>Peace to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

24\u00a0<\/sup>Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

always (v.18) = on every occasion<\/h3>\n

supplication (v.18) = asking, entreaty regarding a need, a wanting<\/h3>\n

in the Spirit (v.18) \u2014 directed and empowered by the Spirit<\/h3>\n

being watchful (v.18) = being sleepless, keeping awake, attentive, vigilant<\/h3>\n

perseverance (v.18) = to give constant attention and\/or care to a thing<\/h3>\n

utterance (v.19) = lit. “a word”<\/h3>\n

boldly (vs. 19 and 20) = fearlessly, confidently free in speaking<\/h3>\n

mystery of the gospel (v.19) \u2014 Paul was writing here specifically about the gospel given to him \u2014 that salvation is available to all by grace through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ without works<\/h3>\n

ambassador in chains (v.20) \u2014 Paul was in prison when he wrote this. He was there because of his preaching of his gospel. He also considered himself a slave to Jesus Christ, compelled to preach.<\/h3>\n

Tychicus (v.21) \u2014 Acts 20:4<\/a><\/span> (he is from Asia, where Ephesus was); Colossians 4:7<\/a> (he carried Paul’s letter to Colossi)<\/span><\/span>; 2 Timothy 4:12<\/a><\/span> (he went to Ephesus for Paul a second time during the second imprisonment); Titus 3:12<\/a><\/span> (he may have been sent to Titus on Crete at a later date).<\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
