{"id":3793,"date":"2015-10-17T11:27:10","date_gmt":"2015-10-17T17:27:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3793"},"modified":"2023-01-02T12:27:34","modified_gmt":"2023-01-02T18:27:34","slug":"ephesians-610-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3793","title":{"rendered":"Ephesians 6:10-12"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span class=\"text Eph-6-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29349\" class=\"text Eph-6-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29350\" class=\"text Eph-6-12\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>be strong (v.10) = make strong \u2014 the tense is &#8220;be continually strengthened&#8221; in the passive tense \u2014 the idea is to put on strength as you would put on clothing<\/h3>\n<h3>in the Lord (v.10) \u2014 qualifies &#8220;be strong,&#8221; which can only occur in union with the Lord \u2014 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3687\">Ephesians 1:20-22<\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>power of His might (v.10) \u2014 &#8220;in the active efficacy of the might that is inherent in Him&#8221; \u2014 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3684\">Ephesians 1:19-20<\/a><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>put on (v.11) = envelope, hide in, clothe with<\/h3>\n<h3>whole armor (v.11) = lit. &#8220;all the weapons&#8221; \u2014 the Greek word gives us &#8220;panoply&#8221; \u2014 complete without lack of a single part \u2014 used in Greek of the entire outfit, including weapons, of a heavily-armed soldier<\/h3>\n<h3>stand against (v.11) \u2014 a military expression used of a soldier that stands his ground as against taking flight<\/h3>\n<h3>wiles (v.11) = cunning arts, deceit, craft, trickery \u2014 stratagem<\/h3>\n<h3>wrestle (v.12) \u2014 in Greek wrestling in Paul&#8217;s time, the stakes were high \u2014 the loser often had his eyes gouged out<\/h3>\n<h3>principalities (v.12) = first ones, preeminent ones, leaders<\/h3>\n<h3>powers (v.12) = rulers<\/h3>\n<h3>heavenly places (v.12) \u2014 the lower heaven, the atmosphere surrounding earth<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">In <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=5098\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2 Corinthians 10<\/span><\/a>, the apostle speaks of this same warfare. He tells us that it is not a conflict with the flesh. We are not told to fight the flesh but to reckon ourselves dead to sin in the flesh. Our conflict is with the fallen spirits that dominate this present age of evil. \u2014 Ironside, page 307<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>I included Ironside&#8217;s quote because I think he gets close to the meaning of this passage. During this age of grace, I don&#8217;t believe Satan and his angels attack us with physical manifestations of supernatural power. Instead, he&#8217;s working through false doctrine, religion and the passions and agendas offered by the world in place of passion for Christ. We can&#8217;t fight these things with physical battles, nor can we fight them with our fleshly natures. We must realize this is a spiritual battle and fight with our spiritual weapons (next post).<\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=444\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Romans 13:11-14<\/span><\/a> \u2014<span class=\"text Rom-13-11\"> <em>And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-28279\" class=\"text Rom-13-12\">The night is far spent, the day is at hand.
