{"id":3789,"date":"2015-10-10T09:16:38","date_gmt":"2015-10-10T15:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3789"},"modified":"2023-01-01T18:17:57","modified_gmt":"2023-01-02T00:17:57","slug":"ephesians-61-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3789","title":{"rendered":"Ephesians 6:1-4"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"chapter-1\"><em><span class=\"text Eph-6-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-29340\" class=\"text Eph-6-2\">1 <\/span>Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"chapter-1\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29340\" class=\"text Eph-6-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"oblique\">\u201cHonor your father and mother,\u201d<\/span> which is the first commandment with promise:<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"chapter-1\"><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29341\" class=\"text Eph-6-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"oblique\">\u201cthat it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29342\" class=\"text Eph-6-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>obey (v.1) = lit. &#8220;to hear under&#8221; (authority) \u2014 to listen to a command and to submit \u2014 the tense indicates a habitual, constant action<\/h3>\n<h3>in the Lord (v.1) \u2014 connected with &#8220;obey&#8221; \u2014 it defines the sphere in which the obedience occurs<\/h3>\n<h3>right (v.1) = righteous, required by law \u2014 In the parallel passage (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2099\">Colossians 3:20<\/a><\/span>), the motivation is that obedience is &#8220;well pleasing to the Lord.&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>honor (v.2) = to estimate, fix the value \u2014 to evaluate another accurately and honestly and treat him with the deference, respect, reverence, kindness and obedience his station in life and character demands<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The argument in verse 3 is not that obedient children are assured of long life on the earth but that God, in promising such physical blessing to Israel, showed the exceptional importance of this commandment. \u2014 Williams, page 927<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>provoke (v.4) = rouse to wrath, exasperate, anger \u2014 referring to injustice or undue severity or other actions which will make them indisposed to obey and honor<\/h3>\n<h3>bring &#8230; up (v.4) = nourish to maturity, nurture<\/h3>\n<h3>training (v.4) = training by act or discipline \u2014 the whole education and training related to cultivation of mind and morals<\/h3>\n<h3>admonition (v.4) = training by word \u2014 exhortation, including encouragement and remonstrance or reproof<\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2\u00a0\u201cHonor your father and mother,\u201d which is the first commandment with promise: 3\u00a0\u201cthat it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.\u201d 4\u00a0And &hellip;
