{"id":3780,"date":"2015-09-29T09:30:34","date_gmt":"2015-09-29T15:30:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3780"},"modified":"2022-12-30T07:53:26","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T13:53:26","slug":"ephesians-521-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3780","title":{"rendered":"Ephesians 5:21-24"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-29326\" class=\"text Eph-5-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>submitting to one another in the fear of God.<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-29327\" class=\"text Eph-5-22\"><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span class=\"text Eph-5-22\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29328\" class=\"text Eph-5-23\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29329\" class=\"text Eph-5-24\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">submitting (v.21) \u2014 The simple verb <em>tasso<\/em> was used in classical Greek in a military meaning, &#8220;to draw up in order of battle, to form, array, marshal&#8221; both troops or ships. It speaks of soldiers marshaled in military order under a commanding officer. Thus, it speaks of the subjection of one individual under or to another. The prefixed preposition <em>hupo<\/em> means &#8220;under.&#8221; <em>Hupotasso<\/em> in classical Greek meant, &#8220;to subject, make subject.&#8221; In New Testament Greek, it means, &#8220;to arrange under, to subordinate, put in subjection,&#8221; in the middle voice as it is here, &#8220;to subject one&#8217;s self to, to obey.&#8221;<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Subjecting one&#8217;s self to another is the opposite of self assertion, the opposite of an independent, autocratic spirit. It is the desire to get along with one another, being satisfied with less than one&#8217;s due, a sweet reasonableness of attitude. \u2014 Wuest, page 129<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0God (v.21) \u2014 should be &#8220;Christ&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>your own (v.22) = one&#8217;s own private, peculiar, unique possession<\/h3>\n<h3>as (v.22) = even as, in the same manner as \u2014 In the marriage union the husband holds the same relation, namely, that of headship, as Christ holds to the Church, and the headship of the one represents the headship of the other.<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">And He is the Savior of the body (v.23) \u2014 It is best taken as an independent clause, stating in a definite and emphatic way an important point in which Christ, who resembles the husband in respect to headship, at the same time differs from the husband. The husband is <em>head<\/em> of the wife, and in that he is like Christ; but Christ is also that which the husband is not, namely, <em>Savior<\/em> of that whereof He is Head. \u2014 Wuest, page 130.<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>therefore (v.24) = should be &#8220;but&#8221; or &#8220;nevertheless&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">The 24th verse looks to the peculiarity mentioned as belonging to\u00a0 to Christ&#8217;s headship in distinction from the husband&#8217;s namely, the fact that He is not only the head, but Savior.
