{"id":3778,"date":"2015-09-25T09:59:22","date_gmt":"2015-09-25T15:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3778"},"modified":"2022-12-29T08:43:14","modified_gmt":"2022-12-29T14:43:14","slug":"ephesians-518-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3778","title":{"rendered":"Ephesians 5:18-20"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29323\" class=\"text Eph-5-18\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29324\" class=\"text Eph-5-19\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29325\" class=\"text Eph-5-20\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">drunk (v.18) \u2014 A curious use of the word occurs in Homer, where he is describing the stretching of a bull&#8217;s hide, which in order to make it more elastic, is soaked [drunk] with fat.&#8221; The word, therefore, refers to the condition of a person in which he is soaked with wine. \u2014 Wuest, page 127<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>dissipation (v.18) = lit. &#8220;unsavingness&#8221; \u2014 so, that which has nothing of a saving quality about it but, instead, a destructive one \u2014 used generally of an abandoned, debauched, profligate life<\/h3>\n<h3>be filled (v.18) = to cause to abound, to supply liberally, to flood \u2014 tense is &#8220;be constantly being filled with the Spirit.&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">You get exactly the same results in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=2096\">Colossians 3:16<\/a><\/span> when the Word of Christ dwells in you richly that you get in Ephesians 5:19 when you are filled with the Spirit.
