{"id":3776,"date":"2015-09-24T10:19:10","date_gmt":"2015-09-24T16:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3776"},"modified":"2022-12-29T08:38:46","modified_gmt":"2022-12-29T14:38:46","slug":"ephesians-515-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3776","title":{"rendered":"Ephesians 5:15-17"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span class=\"text Eph-5-15\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29321\" class=\"text Eph-5-16\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>redeeming the time, because the days are evil.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29322\" class=\"text Eph-5-17\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. <\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>see (v.15) = discern mentally, observe, consider, take care, take heed<\/h3>\n<h3>walk (v.15) = to order one&#8217;s behavior, to conduct one&#8217;s self \u2014 so the point of this verse is &#8220;Be constantly taking heed how accurately you are conducting yourself&#8221; with respect to the Word of God.<\/h3>\n<h3>The word &#8220;walk&#8221; appears seven times in Ephesians.<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<h3>you once walked according to the course of this world (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3689\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2:2<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>walk in good works which God prepared (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3696\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">2:10<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>walk worthy of the calling with which you were called (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3735\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">4:1<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>don&#8217;t walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3751\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">4:17<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>walk in love, as Christ loved us (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3764\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">5:2<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>walk as children of light (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3769\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">5:8<\/span><\/a>)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3>walk circumspectly (5:15)<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>circumspectly (v.15) = exactly, accurately, carefully<\/h3>\n<h3>fools (v.15) = lit. &#8220;the unwise&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>redeeming (v.16) \u2014 the meaning here is &#8220;to buy up for one&#8217;s self or one&#8217;s advantage&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Redeeming the time (v.16) \u2014 It literally means, &#8220;Buying up the opportunities.&#8221; Just as people go out bargain hunting and say, &#8220;There, if I buy that today, I can get it at a good price, much better than if I have to let it go until another time. It is worth my while to buy these bargains up at this rate.&#8221; Let the Christian be just as eager, just as earnest, to obtain opportunities to witness for Christ, to serve the blessed Lord, and to be a means of blessing to others with whom he comes in contact. Buying up the opportunities, seeking to use them to the glory of our Lord Jesus, realizing that the days are evil and the time for serving Christ is slipping fast away, and that opportunities once lost will never be found again.
