sons (v.6) \u2014 a Hebraism in which calling a person having a certain quality a son of that quality<\/h3>\n

be (v.7) = become \u2014 referring to a relapse into past sins \u2014 stop becoming<\/h3>\n

partakers (v.7) = participants<\/h3>\n

were (v.8) \u2014 indicator of past position \u2014 “you were; don’t become again”<\/h3>\n

you were once darkness (v.8) \u2014 not in<\/span> darkness \u2014 darkness was our nature. Now we are light (not in<\/span> light) \u2014 light is now our nature in Christ.<\/h3>\n

light (v.8) = phos<\/em> = light itself, not a mere lamp \u2014 not just enlightened but light itself in the Lord<\/h3>\n

walk (v.8) = order one’s behavior, conduct oneself \u2014 the verb tense commands a habitual action<\/h3>\n

children (v.8) = born ones \u2014 children of God, thus light in the Lord, thus children of light<\/h3>\n

Spirit (v.9) \u2014 should probably be “light”<\/h3>\n

fruit of the light (v.9) \u2014 the moral results of the light<\/h3>\n

goodness (v.9) = benevolence, active goodness<\/h3>\n

finding out (v.10) = putting to the test for the purpose of approving, then, when it meets the specifications, sanctioning or approving it \u2014 proving<\/h3>\n
