1 I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

2\u00a0<\/sup>with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

3\u00a0<\/sup>endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

therefore (v.1) \u2014 referring back to the blessings and exalted position in Christ listed in the first three chapters<\/h3>\n

prisoner of the Lord (v.1) \u2014 ‘prisoner in the sphere of the Lord” \u2014 Paul was prisoner because of his connection to Christ<\/h3>\n

beseech (v.1) – beg \u2014 “I beg of you, please.”<\/h3>\n

walk (v.1) = to conduct one’s self, to order one’s behavior<\/h3>\n

worthy (v1) = to weigh as much as \u2014 Their walk should “weigh as much as” their profession of belief in Christ.<\/h3>\n

calling (v.1) = summons (unto salvation)<\/h3>\n

all lowliness (v.2) \u2014 all possible lowliness, every kind of lowliness \u2014 Originally in Greek it meant “abject servility, grovelling,” but in the New Testament, it means “thinking truly and, therefore, lowly of ourselves, having a sense of our own moral smallness.”<\/h3>\n

gentleness (v.2) \u2014 the grace of soul that enables us to accept God’s dealings with us as good<\/h3>\n

longsuffering (v.2) = patience as regards to persons \u2014 not easily provoked<\/h3>\n

bearing (v.2) = to sustain, to bear up \u2014 a further explanation of “longsuffering”<\/h3>\n

love (v.2) = agape<\/em><\/h3>\n

endeavoring (v.3) = take care, make haste, do one’s best, exert one’s self<\/h3>\n

keep (v.3) = guard, exercise watchful care<\/h3>\n
