These things are good and profitable to men.<\/span><span id=\"en-NKJV-29933\" class=\"text Titus-3-9\"><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span class=\"text Titus-3-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29934\" class=\"text Titus-3-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29935\" class=\"text Titus-3-11\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>This is a faithful saying (v.8) \u2014 referring back to <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3648\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">verses 4-7<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3>affirm (v.8) = assert strongly<\/h3>\n<h3>constantly (v.8) \u2014 not &#8220;continually,&#8221; but &#8220;uniformly, steadfastly&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>be careful (v.8) = ponder thoughtfully and purposely, consider<\/h3>\n<h3>maintain (v.8) = be forward in, give attention to, occupy themselves with<\/h3>\n<h3>good (v.8) = <em>kalos<\/em> = honorable, fair, virtuous<\/h3>\n<h3>The things to avoid (v.9) are also mentioned to Timothy in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3418\">1 Timothy 1:4-7<\/a><\/span>; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3490\">1 Timothy 6:4 <\/a><\/span>and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3549\">2 Timothy 2:23<\/a><\/span>. These things must have already become a widespread problem in the early church.<\/h3>\n<h3>foolish (v.9) = dull, sluggish, stupid<\/h3>\n<h3>vain (v.9) = aimless, without result<\/h3>\n<h3>divisive man (v.10) = lit. &#8220;to take, to take for one&#8217;s self, to choose, prefer&#8221; \u2014 factious, opinionated, self-willed \u2014 so, one who refuses to accept sound doctrine as revealed in Scripture and taught by Paul (and Titus) and prefers to choose for himself what he is to believe<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">A heretical [divisive] man was, and is, one who strikes out on a line of his own choosing and causes strife, faction and division in an assembly. The meaning therefore, is that of causing divisions rather than that of holding false doctrine, though the latter is frequently involved. \u2014 Vine, page 247<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3>warped (v.11) = twisted \u2014 a medical term for a sprained joint<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\">self-condemned (v.11) \u2014 He cannot plead ignorance; through hardness of heart he persists in his course of sin (he goes on sinning); the existence of the party spirit arising from his influence, renders him self-condemned. \u2014 Vine, page 247<\/span><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>8\u00a0This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works.
