in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29917\" class=\"text Titus-2-8\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29918\" class=\"text Titus-2-9\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29919\" class=\"text Titus-2-10\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>exhort (v.6) = &#8220;I beg of you, please&#8221; \u2014 not a strict demand but a loving urging<\/h3>\n<h3>sober-minded (v.6) = of sound mind, self-controlled \u2014 the same word translated &#8220;temperate&#8221; in v.2 and &#8220;discreet&#8221; in <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3633\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v.5<\/span><\/a>.<\/h3>\n<h3>Paul directs his remarks directly to Titus in vs. 7 and 8, as Titus&#8217;s example is the best way to influence young men.<\/h3>\n<h3>integrity (v.7) = absence of self-seeking or perverse motives<\/h3>\n<h3>reverence (v.7) \u2014 dignity and solemnity when dealing with matters of doctrine and God&#8217;s Word<\/h3>\n<h3>incorruptibility (v.7) \u2014 not in the best manuscripts<\/h3>\n<h3>sound (v.8) = healthy, whole<\/h3>\n<h3>you (v.8) \u2014 should be &#8220;us&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>bondservants (v.9) = slaves \u2014 many of whom would be serving in pagan households<\/h3>\n<h3>be obedient (v.9) \u2014 a military term for being in subjection, as in <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3633\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v.5<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3>masters (v.9) = one who has absolute ownership and control over another \u2014 the Greek word from which we get &#8220;despot.&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>well pleasing (v.9) = to give satisfaction<\/h3>\n<h3>in all things (v.9) \u2014 goes with &#8220;be obedient&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>answering back (v.9) = contradicting, thwarting the master&#8217;s plans and wishes<\/h3>\n<h3>pilfering (v.10) = petty theft, embezzling<\/h3>\n<h3>fidelity (v.10) = trustworthiness<\/h3>\n<h3>adorn (v.10) = ornament, decorate, garnish, embellish with honor<\/h3>\n<h3>doctrine (v.10) \u2014 that found in <a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3644\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">vs. 11-14<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>6\u00a0Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, 7\u00a0in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works;
