{"id":3633,"date":"2015-03-14T08:55:41","date_gmt":"2015-03-14T14:55:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3633"},"modified":"2023-05-03T06:56:29","modified_gmt":"2023-05-03T12:56:29","slug":"titus-21-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3633","title":{"rendered":"Titus 2:1-5"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><em><span class=\"text Titus-2-1\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\">1 But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29911\" class=\"text Titus-2-2\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29912\" class=\"text Titus-2-3\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things \u2014<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29913\" class=\"text Titus-2-4\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3><em><span id=\"en-NKJV-29914\" class=\"text Titus-2-5\" style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.<\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<h3>But (v.1) \u2014 setting sound doctrine in contrast to the false teaching of the Judaizers (<a href=\"https:\/\/versebyverse.carpelibra.org\/?p=3611\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Titus 1:12-16<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<h3>as for you (v.1) \u2014 the Greek indicates &#8220;you in contradistinction to those just mentioned&#8221;<\/h3>\n<h3>proper (v.1) = conspicuously fit, seemly<\/h3>\n<h3>sound (v.1) = healthy, whole<\/h3>\n<h3>sober (v.2) = lit. &#8220;not drunken&#8221; \u2014 watchful, free from credulity, not excitable<\/h3>\n<h3>temperate (v.2) = of sound mind, self-controlled<\/h3>\n<h3>faith (v.2) = <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the<\/span> faith, doctrine<\/h3>\n<h3>love (v.2) = <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">the<\/span> love \u2014 <em>agape<\/em> \u2014 the love produced in the believer by the Holy Spirit<\/h3>\n<h3>patience (v.2) = lit. &#8220;remaining under&#8221; \u2014 accepting God&#8217;s planning and leading without disputing or resisting<\/h3>\n<h3>reverent (v.3) \u2014 befitting things sacred to God<\/h3>\n<h3>behavior (v.3) = deportment, demeanor \u2014 dress, conduct and conversation<\/h3>\n<h3>slanderers (v.3) \u2014 given to finding fault<\/h3>\n<h3>not given to much wine (v.3) = a slave of much wine, a drunkard<\/h3>\n<h3>teachers (v.3) \u2014 not referring to public instruction but wise counsel<\/h3>\n<h3>admonish (v.4) = train, discipline, moderate, recall to their senses<\/h3>\n<h3>discreet (v.5) \u2014 the same as &#8220;temperate&#8221; in v.2<\/h3>\n<h3>chaste (v.5) = pure from carnality, modest<\/h3>\n<h3>homemakers (v.5) \u2014 fulfilling the duties of the home<\/h3>\n<h3>good (v.5) = <em>agathos<\/em> = beneficial, kind<\/h3>\n<h3>obedient (v.5) = a military term for arranging soldiers in subjection<\/h3>\n<h3>blasphemed (v.5) \u2014 bad conduct by those who profess to believe God&#8217;s word will cause unbelievers to revile it and speak reproachfully about them<\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1 But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: 2\u00a0that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;
