14\u00a0<\/sup>For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n

If the law is good, why can’t it bring holiness? Because I am carnal (Romans 8:3<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n

Paul’s progression:<\/h3>\n

    The law is spiritual (verse 14).<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n
  2. \n

    There is nothing good in the flesh (verse 18<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n
  3. \n

    So there’s a result \u2014 when I would do good, evil is present (verse 21<\/span><\/a>).<\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    spiritual = holy, righteous and good (verse 12<\/span><\/a>). Invisible and powerful \u2014 originating with God and in harmony with His character.<\/h3>\n

    carnal = fleshly (in ethical, as opposed to material, sense)<\/h3>\n

    sold under = fully dominated by \u2014 refers to the futility of the law as a means of deliverance.<\/h3>\n
